tbf, even with the negatives they did a lot good. for starters we literally wouldnt be in this discord if they never made halo as good as it was. but on top of that the revolutionized console fps games, theyre pretty much the reason for a lot of features when it comes to MP and online functionality on console, shoot marathon was the first FPS games to feautre aiming up and down and was one of the first to be more narrative driven and that was before Half life. they also made a bunch of really dope scifi universes with marathon, halo, destiny.

Thanks to message boards dying it's a go-to place for the hobby that isn't some gated facebook group. I can manage without it by digging for the info, but it is a lot less convenient and you miss the extra answers you'd find.

Sure, they can move. But I'd hate to see how tedious a migration of all the questions, tutorials, files, etc would be...

You never know if you can have change unless you try. Some subs are staying dark for longer periods, I haven't been keeping up with the majority as I don't use reddit for anything but my hobby/business pages.

From what I've been reading, Reddit API changes are affecting the tools and 3rd party apps that a lot of these commuties use and reply on to function properly, as reddit's own tools just haven't been cutting it.

By effectively nuking these tools, they're harming their own communities. Those communities have chosen to stand up against the changes by going dark in protest

Reddit isn't nuking the tools, they're asking for money so those tools can keep using reddit's API. They've been using readouts API entirely freely since reddit was made but with the recent addition of certain tools allowing you to make your own reddit with 0 ads they're asking those communities that rely on bots/3rd party tools to give them money every month for API access.
