The damage profile would be more consistent with a beam rifle. Needles have bounced off of ODST helmets and you can't actually headshot through marine helmets in gameplay in Reach.

That's the issue; The damage isn't consistent with Needle Rifle shots, the character's weapon is a focus rifle, and the projectile is visibly a needle from a needle rifle.

There's in-universe examples of Needles not penetrating ODST helmets (Glasslands; One bounces off an ODST helmet, leaving a sizeable dent), and in-game, you can't actually headshot an ODST with a needle rifle or DMR.

It would stand to reason, logically, that a Spartan's helmet should be much, much hardier than an ODST or Marine's. We've seen Spartan helmets tank Covenant Carbine rounds, AR bullets, an entire gun being broken across their surface, Ravager burns, and allegedly if Rubicon Protocol is to be believed, a high chance of tanking an inert gravity hammer.

This punch should've tore off or broke Halsey's jaw, as IIIs are demonstrated as being very capable of snapping elite wrists and successfully melee fighting armored brutes while crippled and unarmored. Which means, logically, the punch was not full force, but as Halsey getting punched in the face was a narrative plot point, so she was punched.

Well, because it's cool. In-universe it's because it was necessary to reliably penetrate the hide of the Locust and was inspired by a Gear using an industrial chainsaw to kill a Locust drone in melee combat. Also, Osmium is an extremely hardy metal especially when used in alloys, which means the chainsaw's waaaaay better at... Chainsawing. Through a lot of things.

It's genuinely fascinating to me, but it's a lot like Halo. The fanbase tends to love on the parts that, to me, are meaningless, and will fixate excessively on one detail to the point of missing bigger pictures.

That's the thing about franchise lore, especially for big ticket franchises; The people behind the scenes are not idle, and they are not stupid. They can obsess over details just as thoroughly, and like any fan they can also have blind spots.

Honestly, as much as I rag on ODST fans, I still think ODST and Spartan Ops overall are still 'the one to beat' in terms of power scales and should be the example of how things should be done in longer running franchises like Halo.

Nothing's insane or huge or crazy. They're fundamentally background events in a larger world, that fleshes out how things got from point A to point B from the perspective of people without significant plot agency outside of their games.

It's why people liked Mando and Clone Wars stories so much-they're inherently universe-fleshing.

Guardians ended with a major cliffhanger, and I was expecting a climactic finale in a war against Cortana. But no... we begin with all that having been taken care of already... now let's fight this "new" villains. The Covenant 2.0!

Before my current project, I was considering doing a podcast-style thing where I would pretend to be a COG Gear who deserted a decade after E-Day and threw his lot in with former UIR troops, and would basically go in-depth on the differences and upsides and such of the different weapons in-universe, including how the Locust would alter them.

Projects (As in, games, not the project I was referring to) with that much scale and passion are fascinating to me. You can tell so much about their world by just observing it, and it's such a breathtaking part of these collaborative projects.

Like, as much as I don't care for Avatar (The blue ones), there's actually a huge amount of dedication behind the scenes that I really appreciate, even if I care very little for the end product.

So my favorite thing about the AMP Suits is that they bothered to describe a common issue newer pilots have, which is the 'turtle' problem. This is when the pilot gets his mech stuck in a supine position. And it's basically a requirement for combat pilots to figure out how to get out of it, because it's that critical to usage.

I did have a concept for a game at one point that I partially ripped from a few sources that was basically nihilistic warfare the game.

You played as a human consciousness in a suit, recently regaining 'consciousness' after an artillery strike. And over the course of the game you find out that literally every single soldier you see in the entire game, ally or enemy, is exactly the same, they just haven't woken up, and the original person is still rotting in every suit.
