interesting thing, we had a similar thing for the Gamescom 2018 or 19 to watch World of Tanks replays and it would run on your typical smartphone or tablet and obviously with GoogleVR you could use your phone as a VR headset which would make it even more fun. you only had to set some markers on a flat plane and you could interact with it like in future movies where they grab into the hologram to move things etc

it was a gimmick, but i mean look at Mario Kart VR with these clunky slow carts - AR and VR sound super awesome but lets be real. Nobody likes wearing headsets or even glasses. I mean I would love to have the old Google Glass project with todays capabilites. but im one of maybe ten in a mass of 10000ppl that would say that
it looks super nice in movies and games but it never works like that irl. its laggy, gesture control is often hideous(yes im looking at you Kinect, u are dead for a reason) and development is a nightmare.

there is a reason you only see that cool tech we got promised move to enterprise.
Google Glasses do exist, just super expensive for enterprise and theyre great for warehouse managers for example where the glasses can augment each storage unit and box and give you a hud where what is located and how to get there.

Your comment was extremely interesting to read, thank you. I can definitely see how a room full of R&D folks would get incredibly excited about all the ways they see that tech changing everyday life. But thereafter, it's the simplest universal obstacles that prevent that tech from being mass-adopted: price, inconvenience, fear of others thinking I look silly, etc.

VR is great and it's hard to describe what it feels like until you try it yourself. And I mean dedicated VR hardware with 6DoF outside of what a phone can do. The Quest could've been much more and gotten broader public interest than it did but it being led as a "metaverse" thing turned off many

The problem with the Oculus cable for the rifts is they try to honor the warranty, but the cable used proprietary service and that company went out of business but still owns the patents for the HDMI USB split thing

Da Hub has a quest 2 (in addition to his own rift) and it's nice. The screen is far better than the original rift, but over all I still prefer the rift
