Yes, that version cant find games of multiplayer alone. You have to queue with someone on Steam/Console, its easier to just buy the Steam version.

Dunno how the requirements measure up but you might see proportionately more people with it considering by this time after reach's launch we were 1 year out from halo 5.

You may also have just gotten better at the game and are more perceptive of the leaderboard than you were back then.

Confirmation bias couldve also been a factor, as far as i know we dont have stats on how many people got to max rank for either game and their average k/d and score. Every inheiritor you remember as being good proves that they were good while every hero who does middling or bad proves they all are bad.

It's kind of silly to measure competitive skill against time spent in the game.

Not everyone cares about the discipline and strategy required to "get gud". They just want to play. And it's awesome - they are literally the ones who don't like getting sweaty (as opposed to all the sweats who can't help to while complaining about how sweaty everyone else is).

And on the flip side there are plenty of people out there who play very little Halo but would still have the skills to be very good very quickly.

As for the Heroes. All you have to do is appreciate their commitment and/or love of the game. Respect!

I like infinite but it feels like a lot of the combat identity has been compromised in PvE. put a sticky grenade on a Red elite? he'll tank it. if the mythic skull is on it probably won't even pop his shields.

The berserker brutes are Cool in concept but they reach some ridiculous speeds. I also have a lot more trouble getting headshots on them than normal brutes.

you can't back smack an enemy and kill them anymore. no idea why that was taken out.

grunt head shots remain satisfying. I don't mind jackals being tougher than they were in the past but I feel like if you're going to do that, probably make their back vulnerable to a one shot? IDK. The energy swords are also really weak. I think I would usually rather have a mangler or even a basic pistol whether it's PVP or PVE.

Its a question abt if you struggle with going back storywise when jumping into a game, or if you struggle more with going back to older mechanics. That problem just appears with one game, which is a prequel. So you could either go with reach for a more linear storytelling or go with Halo CE for not going back to older mechanics. Other than that, is better if you start with Halo CE and the og trilogy if you dont want to get spoiled as you join the community more

Thats also what you should do imo. If you care abt the story a lot, search for the terminals (easter egg cinematics) but they only appear on remastered graphics, so look the location on youtube and change graphics with the tab key when needed. For halo 2 play with the remastered graphics, they are great.

It's not just the extended mags which make no sense, the majority of weapons in Halo have mag sizes which don't make sense for the magazines they have on their model

But I noticed that whenever I destroy a UNSC vehicle, whether it's a scorpion or a hog, my score gets deducted by 100 points. I was using a scorpion for the first half, and for the second half I'm using a wraith.

Certainly an interpretation — and I don't disagree. Looking at it from the perspective of how it develops throughout the game, I'd like to think 117 as a culmination of everything Halo 4 has been building up towards.

This began with us being introduced to the leitmotif through the piece that plays as we wander around the crash site, having informed about Cortana's state - Wreckage.

I'd also like to add that 117 is also very much a piece that gives the answer to one of the themes of the game — a world that has moved on from the myth, a world that is radically different and doesn't believe Chief as who he was; yet, in the end, he proved himself evident from the scene of him passing by Spartans. And by extention, it sort of cements Chief as the face of Halo itself by strategically utilising the Halo motif and unleashing it for the crescendo.

117 also acts as a natural extention of Sacrifice, which plays when Cheif boards the fighter and moves towards Didact. Interestingly, Sacrifice then returns when UNSC Infinity, in a scene that feels very Star Wars-like, helps Chief by damaging the Didact's ship while Sacrifice references the Halo motif; coming right after the previous Halo crescendo.

Sacrifice acts as a sort of prelude/interlude to 117, and I think that's a really good thematic work right there.

Before moving to Blue Team, I believe you've omitted what I believe as an important component - Rock and Ice. This short is very much a prelude to Blue Team. It starts out with shimmering strings, playing Space Theme from first Halo. While Halo 5 is a bit janky when it comes to thematic consistency, the use of Space Theme signifies the obvious. Rock and Ice symbolises post-Halo 4 Chief well, but without a glimmer of hope with the heroic crescendo in the end.

Blue Team is interesting. Because, although it initially starts out as melancholic in minor key, it does make the switch to major key with bold brass fanfare and string ostinato, symbolising somewhat of a 'emerging victorious' feel that would be similar to 117. The ending with One Final Effort piano is a nice touch that continues the same theme. It does feel like, regardless of how these themes start out, there's always a sense of yearning and reaching for hope.

Now, about the hypothetical 3rd major piece, if we follow Infinite's established style; we'd be getting something that might be contemplative, similar to your insinuation.

I'd wager that the piece could really make use of ethereal choir to add a spiritual or 'human' element. In fact, I think bringing back Atonement as part of this hypothetical theme would be a nice touch – comtexualising Atonement and leaving the memory of Cortana linger on.

Based on the established precedents, it's almost certain that there'd be a bold brass fanfare for cresndo that symbolises Chief as hope. Indeed, Chief doesn't fall down the same path as Didact, and that's what I think a little bit of borrowing from the Arbiter's motif would be well-intentioned, as Arbiter was one of the few people to personally Chief on a personal level after the events of Halo 5.

My game crashed loading into a match. I load matchmaking back up, and it says I can either try ti rejoin or go into matchmaking, but choosing matchmaking could result in a ban.

Ok, that’s dumb, but fine so I clicked on rejoin—except it fails to rejoin, probably because it already replaced me. So I try again and just go into matchmaking. It starts loading me into a new match, but then I’m kicked because the ban decided not to kick in until after the match started loading (which was really sad because I finally got a map I’d been hoping to see all day!)

Like come ON, guys, these bans are way, way too strict!

Bans are calculated/applied retroactively. If you quit a game and queue a new one, whether or not you were supposed to be banned isn’t determined until the end of the original game you left. So you complete the new game you joined, the previous ends, you’re now banned so when your current ends you get banned. It’s rough.
To answer, there was a time before rejoins were a thing where quitting was constant and so they added this.

They didn’t rework the quit bans after adding rejoin, so that weird scenario can occur. Technically if half of your team is gone you SHOULD be able to quit without getting banned; but if your team rejoins after you leave, you may be considered the first half to quit and get banned.

Basically it’s not a great system, it was meant for a much larger population and here we are. It probably should be reworked or removed entirely, as the current system promotes going AFK (not bannable).

Yeah I remember when they first implemented it it was a good idea, quitting was way too rampant, but like you said, it just does NOT fit the game as it is today.

The second ban really confused me because like you said, if half the team is gone I should be able to quit, but it sent me to the results screen—so assumedly the match ended for everybody, and yet I still got a second temp ban?

Unfortunately Halo Studios is probably stretched too thin for this to be a priority. That said, do you not get kicked for inactivity anymore?

The quit ban didn't do squat. People quit just as much as they did during the 360 days where there were little to no quit bans.

I don’t remember ever getting kicked for inactivity in MCC but it’s been too many years. There are accounts with no kills and tens of thousands of deaths, there are entire afk communities who try to win as much as possible without ever playing. AFKing isn’t bannable, even from manual reports, so as far as I can tell that’s why most people opt to AFK instead.

I’m just trying to get the last few matchmaking-only achievements I have left so I can focus on the remaining campaign and custom games ones I have left.

I thought the matchmaking ones would be too hard with the current player pop, but I finally got Roadkill Rampage yesterday and realized I only had a few matchmaking-only ones left, so now I wanna try to finish getting the last 176 achievements I need in MCC before November 15th, 2026 for the series’ 25th anniversary.

I think Catch This (which I’m still only about halfway to despite having nearly 500 grenade kills, since it’s about medals) and Negative, Ghostrider are gonna be annoying haha

By the way, before I forget, any idea why Xbox sorts MCC’s achievements into “related” and “other”? I’ve never even seen a game have sections for achievements and the “related” section hardly (in fact not at all) lives up to its name

I wasn't sure where to post this but I see Infinite get a lot of hate, so I gotta speak up cus I have had a wildly different experience.

See, I didn't start with Halo CE. I saw it on the PCs at Sams and got blasted by Hunters while trying to move and look using the keyboard only. I started out with Halo 2 as my first game for an Xbox I got later. We couldn't afford much so it was a big deal for me. I played Halo 2 all the time, and my favorite mission was Delta Halo.

Infinite really captured that exact feeling and made it open-world.

I got to save marines, destroy enemy bases, upgrade the MJOLINR, etc and so forth. The environment and enemies on site changes the further into the campaign you go. Got my hands on the Striker Sidekick for my efforts and had a religious experience using it. It was and is the rebirth of the Halo CE pistol (sans 2x zoom) and what fanboys think the Star Megastar is (iykyk).

I could have binge played that game if not for time constraints like work.

Probably no need to tinker much. The current problems are more to do with thinning population - so you get one star and three plebs on each team.

I would revamp the CSR to tie in more naturally with the MMR. Make it the average of your last 'x' games. Maybe with a bit of a weighting to more recent efforts. That way people can feel a bit more "connected" to their MMR.

And I think access to our MMR and KPM stats would go a long way to clearing the clouds of discontent. If people saw how the rank evolved over time they would be less anxious about "hidden forces" controlling them.

I find it so weird that Infinite has already been out well past the 3 year lifecycle the Halo franchise used to be known for. But it still feels like an alpha, or pre-alpha game. With incomplete movement and aiming mechanics that barely, if ever, got updated. Mediocre at best netcode that leads to janky moments on a regular enough basis to be annoying. A fundamentally broken physics system that is clearly inferior to the rest of the franchise. And just awful bland lighting across most of the game.

Dude with only 91 matches total in infinite was able to completely wipe out my team in a 4 man, he was random qued. he went 39 and 2. The rest of the lobby wasnt even close. Im suspecting wall hacks.

Maybe but I wouldn't consider Infinite's movement incomplete just because it doesn't have some stuff from Halo 5. It'd be like saying COD MW 2019 has an incomplete movement system because there's no wall jumping or jet packs like there were in some of the previous COD games

i generally limit my pvp games anymore. populations are so low that theres not good mixing of teams ever. ill do 3 to 5 maybe then just play firefight, space marine 2 or some story game. until the new halo, infinte and mcc are "dead" imo

Checked it - Yep; Michael Salvatori's return to Bungie in 2025 is as an independent contractor, not as an in-house full-time employee. Discussions suggest that he can demand higher fees as a contractor since Bungie needs his talent but does not bear the costs of full-time employment for him.

So, technically, Halo Studios could contract him. But he's already under a different contract. Who knows for how many projects he's obliged to work on for Bungie.

This is going to be controversial, but I think they should add Neil Davidge-esque Forerunner music/texture in the remake. Not any specific motifs from Halo 4, but rather the Forerunner sound that Neil Davidge pioneered. I do believe Neil Davidge defined and shaped the sound of Forerunners.

Every time I play btb, even if it’s on 4 separate days, I run into the same stack

I'd imagine that outside of the version we see as a weapon model in Infinite, which visually looks more like the SOCOM Magnum from ODST, there is a version of the integrated silencer for the base MK50 Sidekick and a detachable silencer as well, like we see on weapons in Halo 5

According to producer Darryl Frank, Spielberg “godfathered” the project — meaning he was actively engaged in almost every creative and production decision. Specifically, he:

• Was consulted on most major choices from the inception of the series to its casting and design.
