#A tracked AMX should not be faster offroad than a wheeled AMX

So, I have just found out (thank you Hippie) that the tracked AMX-30 is faster offroad than the wheeled AMX-10 RC, and that it wasn't always this way and apparently it got changed to be like this sometime pre SouthAG. Why? It doesn't really make sense given the tanks being wheeled is done specifically for speed/off-road mobility in exchange for armor.

Either making the AMX-30 B2s and other tracked AMX a little bit slower offroad or making the AMX-10 RCs and other wheeled AMX a bit faster would fix this.

The VAB/VIB are also French wheeled vehicles and are all 85 off road, so the -10 RCs being 85 or 80/75 (given they have more armor and a heavier gun) would make some sense, but if this is too fast and constitutes a balance problem, just reversing it to be the other way around so -10 RCs are 70 and -30 Bs are 65 would instantly make so much more sense.

The Spanish AMX-30 Es are also only 55 off-road but that division and those tanks are still quite alright in terms of viability. Balance is important ik but this continuity discrepancy makes my brain hurt ):

IRL, wheeled vehicles are slower offroad than tracked. That is the main point of the tracks. AMX-10RC goes only about 40 km/h off road IRL, so 65 km/h ingame is generous already. I would say AMX-30 speed is a bit overtuned, that could go down.

is that so? I had heard in warno that wheeled vehicles generally are meant to go faster off road but have a modifier so that they move much much slower in forests specifically, but im not an expert, so i could be misinformed

In real life, the main huge advantage of wheels, both on and off roads, is range and maintainability. You aren't always faster, but you go a good bit further. Cheaper too.

Going wheels has solid logic even without speed

Also the AMX-10RC is a pretty heavy wheeled vehicle, which gives it a high ground pressure, which in turn significantly reduces speed (and can also lead to easy bogging) in anything other than concrete roads

Yeah I prolly shoulda said to the B not the Spanish E I dunno why I think I just clicked on the E going through the armory first

Ohhhhhhh hm I see, well that does make sense I wasn’t aware of that.

Yeah usually if theres a speed discrepancy between variants of the same tank, that means theres been some kind of mobility upgrade like engine or transmission going on. I think a notable exception is the M1 abrams, the base variant is 70km/h fast but the M1IP and every other variant are only 65km/h, only because they are heavier due to extra armor.

It’s unfortunate, I said out loud in #questions-chat that for the sake of flavor and variety it would be nice to have more of a noticeable difference between the two divisions to separate the play styles more but I am no expert on engineering or military history so if the current state of things is the most grounded in reality and it isn’t unbalanced I can see why the change wouldn’t be made. Still certainly wouldn’t mind it, though, would be a bit more fun that way.

I would rather increase the EM2 speed to 80 kph and the EM2 SABBLIR to 75 kph

amx-30EM2 being the fastest tracked tank in warno would be hilarious, but not rooted in any sort of reality

Yes, in reality it would be more about acceleration but that would be a good way to represent the more powerful engine
