lets do something different: whats the thing that always associates with holidays for you in entertainment? music? certain movie/tv series? a game? meme?
Mario Kart and going for blood with my siblings

This is a video of offline gameplay on the Capture the Flag map "Facing Worlds".
Facing Worlds - Two large towers stand on a spinning asteroid with a deadly no-man's land between.
The first half of the video is against the AI at the skilled difficulty (4th easiest difficulty), and the second half is against AI at the adept difficulty (4th harde...
I don't know what game first started doing those cheesy announcer lines but it was probably Quake or Unreal
Halo defintely perfected the gameplay though
The official video for “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley.

Ok, bit late asking this, but im geniuenly curious- what are some of the regional (or your own family's) new years customs you at least try to follow (well, aside from fireworks)?
not sure who started it but we blow out candles at midnight (least till covid we did now we just extinguish them with caps)
New Years is my anniversary! So we celebrate that!
blowing out candles is interesting one. Is it kind of like birthday for planet? I like the idea tbh
Anniversary is great! Hope you have a good one each year 😄
I mean, I think my fiancee realized she married the first character to get killed in a horror movie one year when I just walked outside after hearing a chainsaw going off at around midnight
Pretty much nobody in my family or extended family drinks, so we just grab sparkling grape juice. Didn't gather this year because we did family Christmas on New Year's Day.
Champagne, always that
and a toast to the new year
A kiss as well if that is an option
back when these things were all over the internet
ASCII art was fun. Too bad it also is very spammy
My fave of those was the 'hold my flower'

Yeah I love old tech.
old tech in question:
Circa 2007
oh geesh, back when latest windows was vista
i remember when iphones came out. Lot of potential at the time, but so many base features were missing
and of course "phone app has stopped working" memes
wow the old photo icon really hit me with whiplash there
Do you remember what was the first game you played that had save games?
Not video games, but computer games, which probably would have been the Jumpstart games
Crystal Caves had save games I think
Final Fantasy or maybe Gaia I'm guessing? Idk, I couldn't read back then.
maybe link or zelda
Mine was c&c tiberian sun (not oldest game with save files i've played but first one i remember playing on PC). First non-strategy game (so no Age of empires or civilization).. I believe Max Payne was the one
...i feel this meme
ouch
want to feel old? its now closer to 2050 than release of this game (1997)
Okay, this is a conversation that my fiancee and I get into frequently. There is an old pc game that was a motorcycle racing game. You would race through a city and cops would try to pull you over and you would literally kick them off their bikes. There were like 3 different tiers of bikes you could buy and if your bike was too damaged you'd end up running on foot instead of riding your bike. Does anybody else remember/ know of this game?
Were the cops only on motorcycles, or also in cars?
Doesn't matter, I found it
Road Rash for PS1
Can confirm its likely this one. I remember having a personal rule at one point to just run if crashed
Yeah that looks right
speaking of old games, i remember playing one game when i was a kid and did not really understand english at the time. I've been trying to find it but have not succeeded. I believe it was called arsenal, although it couldve been just something i read from random spot of the screen and considered it a name.
key points i remember:
*it was RTS game
*it only had vehicles
*base building was done via bulldozer- anything you wanted to build the area was marked by the flags, bulldozer had to level the area out and drive across all the flags for the thing to be built
*credits were earned via ore- if i recall correctly, it was similar to red alert 1, however ore came from designated spots
*vehicles i remember: jeep (unarmed scout vehicle), tanks, submarines, propeller plane
any idea what game it couldve been?
I know we have mentioned how driving was with navigating only with maps on paper. But does anyone have any good stories related to it?
random picture from the internet
I...uh...now need to figure out what the bot didn't like or I misspelled. Or not. It wasn't important
Especially as I finished downing my lunch
My mentor at my first job preferred using paper maps to relying on gps or even instructioms printed off the internet so occasionally i would miss our turn off trying to read these tiny ass roads
You're good. There's a combination of three letters in "skyscraper" that our bot flags way more than necessary (I can see the message in our logs)

another movie that turns 20 this year
I always loved the old Pixar teasers which were like their own little short films
I think they used to make me mad because I was anticipating what happened in the trailer to happen in the movie. Always disappointed.
I can see that as a kid, but nowadays it's a fun little detail
The Monster's Inc one was hilarious

In 1998 LeVar Burton visits Mister Rogers' Neighborhood during episode 1725 to talk about his love of acting and reading. He and Fred Rogers look at pictures of Levar, and they also read LeVar's book called "The Daddy Book". LeVar Burton is also known for hosting the show "Reading Rainbow" on PBS.
Oh my god. This is glorious. The laptop. The swirls. It's like no time has passed.
