This would be especially effective if any player hitting the “cancel / not ready button” caused the players to all return to lobby. If the player actually wanted out then they could leave the lobby, if they just needed a few seconds to be ready then the return to lobby would allow for that, either way we would stop getting game after game with bots we didn’t ask for.

I believe readying up will be moving to the lobby in a future update.

i think the notion of a host needs to be nixed. the powers of being a host are abused (bait and switch with bots to trick people into thinking they game is nearly full, or adding bots just before starting the game, which is also a bait and switch). when i join a game, it’s because it is set up a certain way.

also a host who doesn’t start the game when the lobby is finally full is even worse than joiners not readying up.

it’s ripe for abuse. simple solution: you can create a game, but once created, you are just like any other player. you wait until it fills up. you don’t get to change anything. and when the lobby fills up, it auto starts in 10 seconds.

i’ve been wanting to post this as an idea. i will when i get a chance

I mean I dunno, people put bots in games just to get the lobby to fill up (it does seem to help), but I don't really feel like it's a bait and switch, because they usually remove the bot as soon as anyone says to, or as soon as a few people are there.

I do agree it's a bait and switch to add bots at the last second (without at least consulting the lobby with emotes), but I mean, that happens pretty rarely in my experience. when they do that I just don't ready up. it's not really a big deal.

There are the occasional hosts who don't start the game once the lobby is full, but idk, is this really all that prevalent? I suppose I usually host games so maybe i'm not seeing it. (like I see it occasionally but it's not like, this huge pervasive problem imo)

Yeah, when I go to host a six player game the lobby defaults to 4 players with two unused slots. Instead of adding two more empty player spots I add two bots and I remove one as soon as a player joins, the other as soon as another player joins. Rather than a bait and switch it saves times waiting in lobby. What ever speed after I opened the lobby the first player joined, they can expect other players to join at the same rate and the games usually fill really fast. Sure, the players join a lobby that appears to have three players in it, but within less than 30 seconds that “prediction” of mine becomes true and usually the lobby is completely full soon after.

Still the main problem is players who quit the lobby just as it fires or don’t ready up leaving us stuck in a game with bots rather than a return to a lobby to wait a few more seconds for a human player who actually does want to play. Often the player who bots this way starts a domino effect and pretty soon all or nearly all of my opponents quit, because they don’t want a bot game (or didn’t like their spawn 🤔).
