Welcome @frail wolf! Any feedback from the community will show up here.
Please note that this thread discussion may be shared with SMG, but its primary purpose is for the RISK community to discuss ideas and provide constructive feedback.

I think this might be a situation where the discord player base and the actual game player base differ in their opinions. The current player base on discord is heavy towards capitals and I assume they mostly do not care for this. But I believe regardless of the up or down votes this idea holds water. As a side note the game in in current state is in my oppenion the greatest game ever made. That does not mean I am not passonant about a way to make it more successful.
I don’t know. I think a lot of the discord users were open to having multiple leaderboards when it was discussed (more than a year ago). A classic fixed specific leaderboard is a great idea. Having some leader boards locked to very specific settings might actually yield a ranking of players (at least on those leaderboards) that would actually have the best at top and not just the most persistent at grinding whatever advantaged setting they have currently cooked up. That’s a game too and I understand why some people like to play it, but it shouldn’t be the only game. Somewhere we aught to have a leaderboard that actually motivates playing risk.
SMG will have to figure out how to separate rank from rank specific to leaderboard, but they should have done that anyway. Resetting rank with every season just to achieve a fresh run at the current broken leaderboards has always been dumb and another route by which we lose player base. Work hard try to get your rank up as a new player and have some success, and nope you’re kicked back down (must be very discouraging) or take a break from the game, come back… “wait what I’m back to being a novice?”. I don’t know why anyone would bother continuing to play as a newer player.
Yeah I always wonder the trade off because I know games do seasons that are popular about must create a boom but it also frustrates me as someone who never has the time to truely go for it.
Why does it need to be to be a classic fixed leaderboard? If your concern is progressive capitals games being the meta and overtaking classic fixed world domination game in popularity, it makes more sense to separate different game types into different leaderboards.
World Domination (Would also include 70% Domination), Capital Conquest, Speed Blitz, and Zombie Apocalypse could have different leaderboards. You can also separate Fixed and Progressive cards games into separate leaderboards I guess.
I humbly disagree with a classic fixed leaderboard. You would then need to make Europe Advanced Progressive Capitals its own leaderboard as well. Every possible niche setting would need to have its own leaderboard.
I am more open to the automatch being expanded beyond classic fixed and forcing more variety of gameplay on to the more casual player than limiting classic fixed to one leaderboard.
I don’t think anyone is saying it needs to be that. It’s just that it would be both our preference and we argue widely appealing to new players. I can still find classic fixed games that fill nearly instantly at any time of day in both casual and ranked.
Making multiple leaderboards for various game modes is also a great idea, but making them for every niche is unlikely. Classic Fixed, Classic Progressive and Capitals on Europe advanced each with the most common and basic settings for each would at least be a start at having leader boards that would actually measure something: how good you are among the players who play that particular setting.
There could both be a set of basic leaderboards that always exist and some curated leader boards that only exist for a single season.
Current leaderboards measure nothing by trying to measure everything.
Hello Gzhedron Classic Fixed is so different than 70% or fixed on a large map or progressive. The point behind all this is what players play coming into the game and that there is a large population being underserved. I also do not disagree you could have more than the two ffa the current one and the one I am proposing. However if it’s not classic fixed specifically it does not serve a large and underserved part of the community. I understand where you are coming from but to muddy the waters of this with what discord players such as myself I have been here a long time, want distracts from what this idea has at its heart. The large volume of players in the largest historically played version of this game are basically not part of a leaderboard. Imagine we put them against players playing progressive with fog on airship. Great a new leaderboard but they don’t have one they can climb. I love those setting btw but found the skills are so dramatically different that it’s not comparable.
All I play is classic fixed world dom & would love for a metric to compare vs others who do the same.
Hey everyone, so the leaderboard overhaul is already well underway. It's just not released yet (or mentioned to the community except for creators we regularly run ideas past).
Side note: we do review and keep ALL the ideas submitted via Discord. Every submission since the Dawn of Discord Time lives in a spreadsheet we maintain, along with Freshdesk, reddit, Steam suggestions. So please keep them coming!
We were meant to be sharing 10 awesome things coming in 2026 about now—including the leaderboard improvements— but that got torpedoed by us fumbling the recent Sandbox release and rushing out hotfixes
However, since I'm reading this very detailed suggestion (thank you Fil), feels like the right spot to share. Here are the leaderboards per mode.

We're also working on the BE for a weekly leaderboard to accompany the Free map of the week (FMOTW).
In addition, the leaderboard in-game is being overhauled. I've attached the UI design.
We'll do a proper announce post in the new year. ETA is late Q1 2026, but community beta testers will be hands on months earlier.
Happy holidays🤘
Big W for this idea, also one question about the settings. If we choose to grind for example EU adv leaderboard is it the same settings for all games or it's a variety with caps, portals, blizz, fog on and off etc?
Looks like it’s a leaderboard considering results for every game played on classic and a leaderboard for every game of global domination (for two examples from their list). So a single game could have a result on your position on multiple leaderboards.
This is not what Fil was advocating for though (if I understand SMG’s plans correctly). While I personally approve of more leaderboards / more specific leaderboards since that is a gigantic improvement and I applaud SMG’s efforts.
What is suggested by this plan would still allow for a classic leaderboard dominated by whoever cooks up the winningest settings on that map and a Global domination leaderboard that could also be dominated by grinding weird settings.
Even the best player in the world on classic fixed might not place very highly on either the classic or global domination leaderboard.
I at least will be glad to see these changes and hope we can someday get to at least one leaderboard that is measuring exact settings against exact settings (classic fixed would be the best for the largest number of new and non discord using players and for growing the player base for the reasons that Fil has mentioned).
I am very excited about this! I agree with TDPR but also love all the new things coming in rapid fashion. It must have been a very hard effort. Also I worked for multiple large us companies and they had large bugs with every change and update so to me these bugs are normal even for Fortune 500 companies.
Ye it shouldn't be rushed, EU adv is only played like meta settings with only variance of bots being active or not while classic map is played on all settings basically and you again run into the same problem where prog caps games just take all the top spots because they are way easier to grind comparing to any other game mode
This in effect next season? Also, will zombies now always attack first from now on?
If they do that game mode is dead, no pun intended
See my post above—ETA is late Q1 2026.
Mobile touchscreen device leaderboards?
Wish I could react to this message. Would be this 🎉
agreed, shame you can't react here. I keep trying to do the same.
Those leaderboard designs are for in-game and not external web. The current crappy in-game leaderboard is the same design we launched with in 2015, so I'm glad to be rid of it.
Is it possible to throw in Speed Blitz on this split leaderboard list?

@ivory apex currently no, we have different plans for speed blitz. Online games represent ~25% of all games played, and speed blitz is 0.3% of all online games, so it's very niche. The potential benefit of speed blitz to widen the appeal to more players is huge, but as a standalone mode it doesn't attract players.
