Yes and no. Correct me if I am wrong, but they don't affect the game play. So apart from eye candy, why does anyone care, even more so, why would you buy them?

its not an unusual or mysterious bit of psychology really, people like to decorate themselves in all kinds of ways for all kinds of reasons, be it online or in real life
why do people buy jewellery? why do people buy the $50 white t shirt instead of the $5 one? why do people put posters in their room and stickers on their stuff?
