I honestly don't really like this idea because of 1 main reason, it's going to make people who are holding portals defend all of them and also would like to see some examples with this modifier to better visualize how this works
I see some downsides but I can't resist wanting to see how 3 different pairs of portals would result in completely different board balances (same as with stable portals & blizzards, but now with 2 different ones in dead end areas to link both across others) π
I am curious to know what the downsides would be
More complicated territory linking
Portal formula includes odd values
Even higher probability of snowball layouts (extremely biased chance of winning based on placement/troops/turn order)
if the 2 groups arent necessarily the exact same number of portals, then odd number of portals would work aswell with one group having 1 more or less than the other.
snowballing could be reduced maybe if the 2 portal groups alternate with turning active and inactive, but im not sure if thats actually the case, but it would also be interesting having always just one half active and they alternate instead of all being in the same state.
pairing the portals could result in too complex territory linking in bigger maps, but only 2 groups might work better, but again i cant judge if it would really help that much.
what do you mean by holding all portals? do you mean if portals are paired then you can hold both of a pair at the same time with only 1 army? if thats the case, what about splitting all portals into only 2 groups especially in bigger maps? that should solve the issue i think, and pairs seem to have other issues aswell. I think groups are better, especially on bigger maps.
Yeah
Despite my thoughts on potential downsides, I'd already upvoted anyway π π
No worries, I just like to go into lot of details sometimes, maybe sometimes a little too muchπ
