Do you have any reference to how they do that? (Not familiar with it personally)

From a completely different perspective, I like the idea of letting players select their game with bot (e.g. risk games -> shows a paginated list of their games) - and letting them see times of each move/reaction etc, while clicking through moves to see the board changes (so not exactly real time view, but let's you view at your own pace, and jump turns or whatever)

Although text only has it's downsides, it does also mean that it doesn't use much space at all, and can literally just save them in a channel/thread

Yess! The Pokemon videos let you click thru turns as well and it's handy.

I have a bunch of battle videos on my 3DS, but the internet service was removed so I just filmed a short one with my phone, sorry for the quality lol but it'll show what I mean at least. On the bottom screen at the top there's a turn counter. Here's the link: https://youtu.be/46u1B5-WUmM

Like as you can see Pokemon has a lot of animations and stuff compared to RIsk, so you guys would have less to render in that sense. It'd just need to show the map and show the activity as generated by the log....

I suppose it would be fun to show the emotes and stuff too, like but that would involve keeping track of more than just the battle details...

For RISK the hardest part would probably be the buttons (I guess overlaying map when clicked on & draggable would probably be least disruptive?) - as you'd also want to be able to view each players cards / each person's POV in Fog (and maybe only view from Red player's perspective to better understand why they made the moves they made)

So you'd have;

  1. View: All | Player1 | Player2 | ... |
  2. Turn: e.g. First | Previous | Current Turn Number | Next | Last (with option to enter a turn number / select it)
  3. Move (as each turn has troops placed, different phases, etc - would probably want to be able to view each of these too)
  4. Speed: 0.5x | Original | 2x | more? (e.g could click 0.5x multiple times to keep multipying by 0.5x, clicking Original could be pause -> then click again is back to default)
  5. Some form of statistics? (results of dice / troops killed/lost and so on)
  6. Battle Log / Cards viewable as they happen by Speed (and based on your current View?)
  7. Clear way to quit

Quite interesting to think about, would love to make a mock UI for it sometime. It's still quite far away imo, text based is probably easiest in that it could be exported/imported - and just be a long json/text/csv file of every interaction
