You should add the designations of the planes to the images.
Like F-15, F-16, etc.
I barely managed the numbers, pls ๐ซ
Personally I like this one https://aviationsmilitaires.net/media/pictures/A-10A.jpg
Not sure how posting images works, but its name is the A-10 thunderbolt
Image for this;
Thanks
I believe I see, F-15, F-16, F-22, F-117, B-2, a MIG, & a Drone, but I'm not sure about the other plane.
Quite sure at least one of them is an f-111
Which is technically both a Classic & Modern since it's still in use.
Eh, classic seems to be WW2 pre-jet fighters
But yeah, it is an outdated model
The drone is a Reaper Drone. It's literally the Pic Wikipedia uses ๐
I'm not very into Drones.
Just like the B-52, which is a prop plane & still in use.
Yeah, keeps getting upgrades, but it's old-reliable
Can't replace it. And I wouldn't want someone to try to replace the A-10. They'd overengineer it and cause it to go from being unkillable to dies to a papercut
The concept of how the A-10 does CAS is outdated you know.
Modern CAS planes do not need the things the A-10 has
Also, can we get the Chengdu J-20 up there? US fighters are great, but there are countires trying to compete. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/73/J-20_at_CCAS2022_(20220827103424).jpg/512px-J-20_at_CCAS2022_(20220827103424).jpg
The B-2 Bomber can fly better CAS sorties than the A-10
I think 1 might be an F-14, 2 I believe is an F-16, 3 I think is a B-2, 4 is an F-117, 5 is a MIG, 6 I'm pretty sure is an F-22, 7 is the Reaper Drone, & 8 is an F-15.
I might have 1 & 8 mixed up though.
Yeah, but the B-2 can't Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt
But that's the part that isn't required anymore, precision guided weapons made that obsolete
Yeah I mixed up the f14 and the f111
Yeah. It was fun for it's time. There is a lot of awesome technology that's become obsolete, but you can respect it. Battleships are another example of awesome, but useless for modern conflicts
If the A-10 is the Thunderbolt, then what was the Warthog?
Fair enough
Warthog is the nickname
a-10 thunderbolt is the official name
Thunderbolt/ Thunderbolt II are the official designations for the planes, Warthog is the Nicknames given to the A-10 by soldiers
Why don't they just stick some Battleship guns on a Carrier & call it a Battle Carrier?
Image reference;
Makes it difficult to launch planes. Also, the guns have been replaced by missles that can fly further and do more damage
Put the guns along the sides.
There's also the Saab JAS 39 Gripen
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Saab_JAS_39_Gripen_at_Kaivopuisto_Air_Show,_June_2017_(altered)_copy.jpg
The Japanese did that in WW2
Unnecessary weight, and as 3irc said, these big guns have become obsolete
But the planes/cruisers with missiles will destroy the carrier before the guns get into range
You also forgot the F-18 Hornet.
Well, we've found the nerds. This is the session with the most messages
They're are a modern holdover to Cannons.
Not to gloss over the role of the actual planes, that have a vastly longer range than guns and are (sometimes) capable of stealth and can just get past SAM sites and drop bombs on the targets
To be fair, planes are very interesting
What was the plane that hit Iran after taking off from the US, hit their target, then returned to US without landing?
B-2spirit if I remember correctly
B1
B1 lancer
Bone
Also b2
Depends which time
The b2s hit iraq
This year
B1s hit iran
So probably b2, but that's up there already
B1s hit iran this year after tge proxy drone strike
Ah, well, we might need to put that on the list
Israel slapped them with an F35 strike after their first drones wave
But also, why isn't the blackbird on here
A10 and blackbird should go up
And on the ww2 planes P51 should be up
Like they call the B-52 a BUFF.
The blackbird was such an inspiration
B1 bone, F16 fighting falcon versus viper
SR-71
Grandpa Buff now
Oh god the SR 71
Old plane
I don't think the sr71 would fit
It wasn't a combat aircraft
Only flew recon
It says modern planes, not modern combat planes
Surveillance more accurately
Also its kinda old now
And all of the other planes are combat platforms
Yeah, at like 100k feet & something like Mach 4 or 5.
Fair, but it was one of the planes furthering the advent of jet and mach capable aircraft.
Mach 3
Oh, that's all?
Sick plane
Faster than what the Russians had
Way faster
Still the fastest reusable airframe of all time
But if we're going to make it combat only, I won't put up the C-17
Ok, but F-15 active can do something like Mach 2.5 now can't it?
Yes
And it can maneuver
And carry missiles, and 20mm gatling gun, and bombs/ordinance
Scared the shit out of russis
They probably added Canards to it, like the F-22.
No
It's just a better designed airframe
Turns best at mach .8
Like most fighters
F-15 Eagle is still my favorite though.
I never got the hype about the F-16.
Lol, but it might be made obsolete before it gets a double digit kill count
It's not obsolete exactly, just to expensive to produce parts for it
It is still a generation and a half ahead of anything anyone else in the world has ever built
But at a price
The F35 provides a better mission set and value
F-18 is just as Maneuverable & faster.
And it's standardized across nato
Sure, but there's rumors of the next generation being in the works
Not sustained
The F16 is the best rate fighter still
It's airframe was purpose built for energy maneuverability theory
The F18 Loses a little of speed after 1 turn
And it becomes for difficult to manuever
It is also a lot more expensive
I'll take an Eagle over a Falcon every time.
In a one circle style of dogfight like a scissors the F18/F15 win. In a two circle fight, which is more common imo, the F16 wins anytime by a landslide
The eagle had better bvr
But falcon is better at notching
Can you tell i play war thunder lol?!
Im such a nerd
I'd have to ask a pilot to get their opinion
Never heard of it
I got a stick and throttle
Also most pilots know a lot about their platform, and primarily only that platform.
Yeah, but how similar is the sim to the real thing? (I've never used either)
Depends on the sim
Though some values may be different, interactions between different planes and tactics that would be used in one on ones are similar
True. I guess the best sim isn't available to the public
Besides safety protocols. None of those
The airforce Sims are legit
But flight models aren't that hard to estimate
With a team of course
Also all of the jets on the list pretty much are american
I don't remember what the last Air Combat game I played was called, but it was a PS2 game.
Ace combat is nuts lol
Maybe that's what it was.
It can be fun sometimes. Realism be damned
Yeah, I added a chinese and swedish one, but Americans are the merchants of war
Let me fire 107 missiles at 32 different targets
Which ones
The chinese jets are all copys
Use a soviet one
The F14 also deserves some more love with the polling
The chengdu J-20
That's just an F22 copy
You're correct, but hey, got to pretend like there's variety
I just remember I was in an F-22 Active, and I was knocking out Mig-32s & SU-37s, and could fly circles are F-16s.
My list here for maximum variety would be.
1.F14
2.F15
3.A10
4.F22
5.mig 29
6. F117
7. B2
8. Eurofighter
9. Su 57
And if anyone votes for the su57 permanent ban immediately
Lol, GL convincing Lui on that one
But yeah, what is that camo pattern supposed to do?
You mean the Chinese actually make their own planes & not just buy surplus Russian Migs. ๐
what surplus?๐
They have spies in all of our factories
They then just make worse versions of our stuff
Other than that it's just russian surplus
That's one of Russia's biggest money makers.
Selling all their older model Migs to half the world.
So we can shoot them down in iraq
Yeah, but they don't have any now
It's why the Mig is the most recognizable jet fighter in the world.
What about the French Mirage?
Oh, for variety, you should also include the Marine Corps Harrier Jet.
Brirish
- F14 tomcat (anyone seen topgun?)
- Same thing. Should add the votes I guess. Top Gun 'nuff said!
- B2 commonly referred to as the stealth bomber
- F117 nighthawk
- f35 lightning 2
- F16 falcon
- Reaper drone
- F22 raptor
it needs the very high tech plane that Maverick flew at the start of Top Gun Maverick
Haha yeah. I'm surprised they are all usa planes. Usually the euros like to boast that they have airplanes too
F-15 Active is still the Best.
Nothing tops watching top Gun and the f14
Can't get any cooler than a swing wing
So cool it's on this list twice, once for each configuration
F-14 & F-18 are basically the Navy versions of F-15 & F-16.
I'd give the W to Air Force for the F-15 & give the W to Navy for the F-18.
No way the f15 is cooler than the f14. F15 is just a copycat fixed wing
Nah F-15 is faster & can cary a bigger payload.
Tomcat is just a bit more Maneuverable.
Overall thought, my top 3 would be F-15, F-14, F-18.
In case you couldn't tell, I'm not a big fan of the F-16.
My top is f14.
Second favorite is the f4 phantom
