Question is how would this work? Would it be between maps the host owns?
I'm assuming for that reason it would have to be a premium feature
I think it would have to be any map at all, including the ones the host doesn’t own.
If host has just premium and no map packs, “random map” would essentially be limited to the default pool
Having access to maps the host doesn't have probably isn't something SMG wants
there are 113(?) maps in the game? I don’t think it matters, people buy map packs because they want to play/host a specific map. It’s unlikely to see the same map on random very often.
Yeah if you only have unpaid maps, you have access to all the paid maps occasionally for free
Now that I think about it, it could be a good way to advertise the map packs that exist and get people to purchase them as they would play those maps
you have that anyway, some paid maps go on a free rotation every week or so
This could be another way to do that
but yeah I don’t see a downside from business perspective. Are you really gonna re-roll “random” map however many times it takes for you to get the map that you want to play but don’t have? 😅
Honestly I don't see why SMG would block maps you don't have as it would be another way to advertise them
yes
i see your point bradex, but on the flipside, you could argue people might be more inclined to buy a map pack if they encounter a new map they really like, you can argue both ways
I would love if this worked for solo
I always have a hard time picking because I often sit down and play 6-10 games in a row
So a random one would be amazing
It would probably just include the maps of the week instead of doing different maps
Would be easier to implement
no, it would require all maps in the "random" pool
Depends on the language that the app is in
Java, python, JavaScript, and other languages have easy implementations of arrays that you could use
If you keep track of purchases, as they do, and you keep track of what map is in what pack, as they do, then you could have the list reset to default each time the app is opened, but check purchases or map of the week and add the packs into the main array
Depends on the language that the app is in
literally does not matter
but risk is written in C#, at least their open-source dice roll code in in C#
