While it may not be possible to fill lobbies of just GM vs GM, we could definitely do with GMs not playing ranked against novices
Do you think the player base is large enough for this change? I mean, people can filter games if they wanna play high level games. There are lots of settings to play in this game. Most people can't wait 5 minutes for an unfiltered lobby to be filled.
Realistically this would need to accompany some other changes, to make it more viable
This would cause huge queue times with everyone playing different settings and such, its not comparable to chess where its the same game (except 960), besides, Rank really does not determine how hard a game is gonna be, I like my odds way better in a Master+ lobby than a random lobby
And from having played league at ~top 500 level, queue times can mean over 40 minutes
I'd prefer to play with people around my rank, but yeah it doesnt outweight the time wasted for me
--- That being said if you are down for the queue, opting in for it can be a solution, but thats already a thing by making GM only lobbies
A big part of why skilled players can’t fill lobbies with other skilled players, is that the other skilled players are customizing settings and playing novices.
Streamlining the options available to play for rank, and separating novice-intermediate from expert-gm, would make it a lot easier to match with good opponents.
You mean once you reach expert you cant see anything but Expert+ rooms?
Yeah, but that would likely need other changes too, like shortlisting how many settings can be played for ranked, to speed up lobbies.
Currently even though high ranked players play a lot of games, since they’re mostly playing novices, and playing a million different settings, expert lobbies are dead. If you brought all the high ranked players together, on a shorter list of settings, the lobbies would fill much faster.
But why limit settings for experts 😦 ? What if they wanted to play those settings in ranked?
Not just for experts. Lobbies would fill faster, and there’d be less comparing apples to oranges with rank, if instead of millions of settings combinations, it was refined to less than 100 settings combinations offered for rank.
People could play anything unranked or in tournaments, but a leaderboard where every person can be playing a different game, makes comparison more difficult.
Is it a better achievement to say “I reached the top of the leaderboard, by grinding novices, on settings only I play”
Or “I reached the top of the leaderboard, by defeating other skillful players, on good settings, that my opponents also had a fair chance to master”?
I got you, what about making a rank for each setting instead of just ffa? That way players choices aren't limited. On the other hand, meta settings lobbies would still fill faster. So a grandmaster in classic fixed for example could be unranked in 70% world dom.
That way people can enjoy other settings in ranked games, and grind on other settings
