Currently, this would violate fair play rules - as you can't play public games with friends

But private is specifically for playing with friends / people you have external communication with
public is specifically for playing vs strangers

i do understand that, but friends could just join the same public match as well and it would break the rules without having this be a possible function anyway

#

i do understand that this is something that would probably intensify people doing that and abusing it? but that goes against "innocent until proven guilty", i don't inherently believe people would use this option in a nefarious way

  • you might add some random in game friend and invite him to a match, friend in game does not necessarily mean you have external communication with the person

If I joined your game code here, then you switched it to public lobby - we have external communication through discord - as we've just chatted - and I've now inadvertently broken fair play

Friends joining the same public match currently requires filtering lobbies / finding the right one - and is clearly labeled as "against strangers only" - which already indicates intentional violation - whereas private specifies vs friends

So they have completely separate rules on who you can play with

This idea may be good if it was referring to a "public games that anyone can play in" but it's currently just suggesting an easier way for rule breakers to queue together against strangers (so it'll get a lot of downvotes)

well, ranked queue is very different from casual queue at least in my opinion
i wouldn't see a problem with this at all if it worked only for casual (which is what i intended if it was not clear enough) as it is not necessarily meant to be competitive anyway
and i mean, are people who actively join random ranked games with friends and just play 2/ more vs all getting punished for it? because i have seen a ton of screenshots here of people doing that or going against that and im not sure that has been changing overtime

there are also a ton of other specific situations that could happen where people may communicate outside of a game, some random person may come across a name that they've seen in discord and @ them and talk about the game because why not, yet i dont believe they should inherently be banned for it
i do get the point, the rule is there, but i think it is more important to allow players to play as they wish and actually punish people who break the rules than just assume everyone will break the rules by default
