So yesterday i was looking at all the maps. We have lots of maps to play but no Lord of the rings map! It would be so nice to fight for middle earth but we can't yet.. Will this be something that is going to get added in the near future? u can even have gondor, rohan, rivendell or even mordor dices. And u can also have Sauron or Theoden as your avatar. It would be even very nice to have like Uruk-hai fight for you or little hobbits.

# boreal lantern Two reasons: 1) Silmarillion was published 23 years later and 2) I checked and I...

I searched and saw something similar as I was curious about it. I also read that one of the ways they enforce copyrights is that only what was first published became public domain. And if things were published afterwords, like Silmarillion (or anything else that added extra detail), the publishers look to enforce from the later dates. The example I saw was about Mickey Mouse. Mickey has enter the public domain, but how Mickey was first published looks nothing like what we know of Mickey now. So only that first image of Mickey is public domain currently. Each creation and iteration of Mickey that came afterwards is still protected…. Or at least that’s what the article I read advocated.

im pretty sure disney still has rights to mickey mouse. its steamboat willy that entered public domain

#

and, well its disney lol. so you can be absolutely 100% no doubt in your mind whatsoeover sure that had it been possible in even the slighetest sense for them to extend that copywrite ... they would have XD

#

theres a bunch of legal talk about copywrite and trademark around mickey. and thats specifically the reason disney has amped up content involving mickey in the recent years and why their logo? move intro icon? started to use steamboat willy. as they were trying to muddy the water and set themselves up to claim that was a trademark and couldnt enter public domain. but that didnt work out and they lost copywrite for it.

#

they will NEVER let the mickey mouse trademark fall into public if they have any say

#

that all being said, disney is much much much older than lotr. iirc the rules that disney negotiated for copywrite is life+70 so lotr wont be public domain for a good long time. and the tolkein estate holds all relevent rights to everything. The hobbit however, should be? is close to? public domain timeframe though

In one item that I read, it mentioned that Disney dropped their attempts at trying to elongate their Mickey Mouse copyright. Of course trademarks are different rights…

ya, the laws involving all this are INSANELY messy lol .... entirely because disney made them insanely messy in their conquest to never lose copywrite on any of their IP, ever. XD

best i recall was that "mickey mouse's steamboat willy", the entire piece of work itself, is public domain. and the staring character which happens to be an early version of mickey mouse is included in that. but the character mickey mouse as a trademark of disney is still theirs.

so you can do things like remake steamboat willy, except that version of mickey mouse is also a mass murder, but you cant make a short about mickey mouse being a mass murderer

#

its only within the context of steamboat willy that is allowed, i think
