#End of Game Resigning Etiquette?

Somewhat new to the online version of risk: I come from playing mostly online chess, where it is typical and even considered proper etiquette to resign to your opponent when you realize you are completely lost (i.e. if you see your opponent has forced checkmate in the next 8-10 moves or so)

I was wondering as I play online if there is a similar code here where I should be surrendering in circumstances where for example it's a 1 on 1 end game and my opponent has 80 troops and is obviously able to destroy my army of 20-30 it the next turn or 2: do I surrender here as a sign of respect to concede and save them the time of performing the remaining tedious clicks it takes to make the win official?

Follow up question would be would surrendering in this fashion affect my or winner's rankings/scores/xp/anything? would this be considered quitting/throwing the game? or is it just the case that this fashion of resignation like in chess just doesn't exist here?

Resigning when it's clear that you lost is more common in for example in 1v1 tournaments then in ranked is my experience.

I think that for it is more clear for experienced players when it's game over then less experienced players.

For example it happens that players go off cap in a 1v1 end game when it's clear that they lost, but it is not the norm in ranked.

(and when a players does that please take te caps and don't go for world domination )

Surrendering doesn't give you extra points.

Yeah it’s polite to end things clearly, once it’s 100% clear who’s going to win. This also includes the winner not stalling.

If it won’t take long, or there’s a 1 in a million chance you win, it can still be interesting to quickly play the endgame, watch how your opponent forces the win, and learn from it.

If you are politely quitting a 1v1, it’s best to do it by using the surrender button (allowing your opponent to instantly win if inactivity is set to neutral), instead of closing the app, which makes your opponent wait your full turn timer, since the game thinks you might come back.

When playing a lot of ranked games, it’s frustrating waiting an extra 60 seconds at the end of every game, because opponents keep quitting the wrong way

Yeah but when you resign you don't see the rank of the other players? I usually just slam all my troops into big stacks so I lose everything.

I never outright surrender because of those design problems mentioned. Instead, play your turn quickly to remove all your cap troops or slam your big stacks. Let them know you surrender and make it obvious.

I’ll mention as well that I’ve won ending 1v1s at a 2:1 disadvantage, so it takes a lot for me to surrender if I don’t see a high level of skilled play from the opponent earlier in the game

i dont think you should ever give up because your opponents can always make a massive blunder

#

and playing out a losing position can give you a ton of practice

i play fog caps. sometimes i just dont know what u got behind the fog. so ill bank a 100% insurmountable force. if u want to resign move your troops off cap into my vision otherwise ill guarantee my victory once i have the win. people would rather cap stack generally at this point or move their troops off cap in the fog

In a caps game many players will fortify what is often a large stack of troops off cap in a surrender

and some will fortify a fake stack
or some have no stack left and can't show that

#

most of the games end with a fortification and then you can take the cap, sure. but some end with awkwardness

if you do that for many turns while your opponent has no troops left...

In fog how would you know?

Right, so it’s not awkward it’s just the logical conclusion
