To toxic tools to use in the game.
To a greater variety of fun in-game phrases.
How is it toxic to tell someone to hurry up?
Yes.
And it is not toxic to wait until the last second before you end your turn? 🙂
You can report people for stalling. That's against the fair play rules.
You certainly don't fight fire with fire.
I don't think that hurry up sounds offensive, but...ok
You can also report someone for spamming the emoji (being "toxic"), or mute them if you are so sensitive.
Not adding this feature just because a few people feel offended by it is like McDonald's making their toilets "all-gender" because some idiots who believe they are the opposite gender would feel offended when they don't get allowed in the toilet of the gender they are not.
The solution to someone being offended by "Hurry up!" is the mute option. You can simply cease to receive new chats, or even report the player for being "toxic".
Right? if it was offensive, it wouldn't have been added occasionally anyway
If I am thinking abt what my next move will be, and someone sends hurry up, I'd know "oh, the other people are waiting, maybe I shouldn't take too much time thinking" or smth like that
Indeed, however there seem to be people who feel bullied by this, so let's just not add the feature.
Honestly this would just lead to toxicity
My point is: You're annoyed by something. So you want to annoy them back. That's fine. But I don't have to support that.
You're fine to think otherwise.
It was added as a meme phrase originally. People spamming any phrase can be muted and even reported, that's right.
You suggested an Idea and I don't like it. You can throw me into a pot of people you hate, or you can try to see my point.
People disagree. That's perfectly fine.
Honestly just mute the player if you are so sensitive, or report them. The same way you would report someone for stalling.
🤷
Also I just want to say that I don't hate you (Silent Legend) and I don't have a problem with you not liking this idea.
I understand your point, but not all people would use it in a toxic way. Most people would genuinely like to be able to let the player know they are taking too much time and I don't think we shouldn't be allowed to communicate this to players just because of a few players who would be toxic with it.
If I tell you to "Hurry up" when you're before me in line when buying something, would you ever take that as constructive criticism? Do you really think that's how you "change people"? Or do you rather just want to react to something you're annoyed by?
The phrase does not come with any other intend than to be toxic.
With a friend you can use it in a joking manner. That's why it was added to the game, as a meme phrase.
If you tell me to "hurry up" when I'm buying something (the first half of the timer), then I would just mute you because you are being annoying.
However, if you tell me to "hurry up" while I haven't bought anything yet, and there are 10 seconds remaining until the end of my turn, then yes - I would consider that as constructive criticism and feel ashamed that I am so incompetent and slow.
Well, you know for yourself that's not true.
"Being too slow" is always subjective anyways.
What about when there are 6 players in Capital Conquest choosing their capital and the last player chooses it the last second of their turn...
5 players before him managed to make the choice, and you genuinely believe that the last one didn't have time to think of what to choose in the meanwhile, out of so many territories he has...
Let's say that the 5 players before him were very quick, taking less than 20 seconds to choose, that's still 1.5 minutes before his turn. He deserves a "hurry up" in all-caps with an angry/raging emoji
I am that guy. Sometimes I have difficult decisions to make. Or maybe I just take a bit longer generally. Not everyone is the same.
I don't think a "Hurry up" would help me in any way.
If I was just the idiot doing that deliberately every turn, then you could report me.
I may deserve it. But I don't need to support toxic tools to do that to people. Because I don't like that kind of behavior.
Also if you have a bad connection you could be playing slow, and I don't think you should be reported.
That would make sense if reports were actually manually monitored. When you report someone for stalling, no admin comes to spectate the game and decide whether or not the report is legitimate. The reports just pile up and the game automatically suspends the acount after it gets reported a certain amount of times. This does not stop the player from stalling, because he doesn't even get the reason of the suspension. Even when a player gets suspended, they don't know why, it just says for violating the rules. If it said "you have been suspended for stalling" then it would make more sense. But still, a player doesn't get suspended until they receive like 100 reports, and it's unlikely that 100 people would use the report function whenever someone is stalling.
Every game with a chat is full of people whining constantly that others should hurry up. Even if they play quickly in general and just take an extra second to think. You might even know people who do it in real life, but then you can luckily just stop inviting them.
Okay, but that's a whole different topic. And I agree with you on that being a big issue.
I just don't tend to take it up on myself to do things for other people. I don't always know it better.
I just want to point out that I am not here to argue whether or not either one of us is in the right, I am simply explaining my point of view, everyone has their opinion, hence the voting system for suggestions
I can use my voice for a change though. By the root though. Treating the symptoms isn't very effective.
Yep, that's fair!
You may be right. I'm enjoying the conversation.
Also I would like to point out how certain other games have certain emotes that are used for toxicity even if they aren't originally meant to be used that way. For example, Clash Royale with the laughing emoji, or Rocket League with "What a save!"
Giving players the option to say something like "Hurry Up" is even more direct that the previous examples, and even with a mute option, should you really have to mute someone or turn off emotes all together just because you play inherently slower, have a slow connection, or any other myriad of reasons because someone else is spamming "Hurry Up"? Also imagine that this is every single game... Your player experience just goes to garbage at that point.
I don't think anyone has such a bad internet connection today, to lag in games like this...
I often play using my cellular internet connection (4G) when I am not at home, and I never had any issues, so I don't really know what internet speed does one need to have to lag in such a game. Even if such a connection exists, it shouldn't be more than 2% of players that play with such circumstances. So 98% of people who are stalling are either being idiots (deliberately doing that) or they aren't paying attention (doing something else or whatever). Either way, they deserve a "Hurry up!"
Not to exeggarate, let's say the ratio is 80% - 20%. It's unfair for the 80% of situations where someone deserves a "hurry up" that we can't communicate this just because of the 20% who legitimately can't make their turn faster
I play at the pace I feel I need to play at. I try to think ahead and generally do not use the entire clock. However, there are times in a game when the entire clock is needed, or you are deciding between multiple good options, or you are communicating with allies about “attacking the red player” when you may need most or all of your clock. If people started spamming “hurry up” I would most likely ignore them. If someone’s generally speed of play (taking the entire clock way more than necessary) bothers you, I suggest starting a Do Not Play List. That way while the game you are currently in won’t change… you will know not to play them in the future for your own enjoyment. Just a suggestion.
Also, if someone really has a problem with others taking up too much time, rather than creating a hurry up emote, I think that playing a faster time mode/setting a faster time mode by default would be better. If someone doesn't want to wait 90s/120s, just play 30s or 60s. No new mechanics required, minimum code needed, 0 controversy added.
I have the wizard Avatar. is there any way you can develop emotes for him such as angry wizard, surrendering wizard ,dying wizard., Etc also can you add more colors to the risk game. it would nice To have a more variety of colors for your avatars
This is very off topic. The topic of this thread is about adding a "Hurry Up" emote to the game, not emotes broadly or the Wizard Emote.
My bad I thought I was writing to risk about the game and giving a suggestion
