Welcome @distant shadow! Any feedback from the community will show up here.
Please note that this thread discussion is not shared with SMG.
It is solely for the RISK Community to discuss ideas & provide constructive feedback!
I would say up to 10 mins or longer would need to be allowed for an automatch system to match similarly ranked players for Risk. I would like it to be less than 10 mins, so I have voted for both
and
. Games should start soon as possible if they can be filled with players of the same rank class.
Wrong way to use the reactions really - it should purely be a gauge on:
- I want this
- I don't lean either way on this
- I don't want this
Should maybe cut down on poll-esque posts here. Focus more on original ideas that can be replied to with a Yes, Maybe, No response.
There appears to be some consensus developing around a ranked auto-matched system.Β It seems to me that knowing how long players are potentially willing to wait for a ranked match would be important information for developers to consider if this option is pursued.Β Of course, if individuals do not have an opinion on the topic, there is no requirement to respond.
I really don't know how much knowing players desired wait times would help. There is just a fact that higher ranked players would have to wait longer for games. This would be due to the number of available players near their rank just simply being smaller.
Knowing customer tolerance levels is always important, even the best idea will fail if implemented poorly.Β Discord does have a poll option, which would probably be better suited for this type of inquiry; however, it is disabled on this server.Β This format was the best option available.Β β¨Reality is that only a small percentage of players take the time to offer suggestions or provide helpful feedback.Β In my view, any input is good.Β Even if an idea turns out to be an unpopular suggestion, the received input can help developers prioritize their limited resources.
It's something for the game developers to identify and resolve imo - a poll on what you're comfortable waiting for is completely irrelevant for Novice - Master players - even base GM to an extent - whereas it definitely is a factor to consider for top 100/top 500
It should more likely be adjusted to be a little faster as you're higher ranked to accommodate for the smaller player pools
I'm not familiar with the poll function you mentioned - do you mean ones that are commonly done by bots or something that's added to Discord directly?
If it's on discord would love a link to the discord FAQ on it if possible
I agree that high skill players will likely be impacted the most by an auto-match rank system.Β However, all players will have wait-time expectations.Β I know what my thresholds are, but others are likely different.Β It is always better to have more customer insight than less.

Just for my two cents, my dad used to play Clash Of Clans towards the top of the leaderboard a long time ago.
In order to trophy climb, he would sit in what was called, βThe cloudsβ for sometimes upwards of 30minutes to an hour just to find a base to attack. I really hope something of this sort doesnβt happen if the idea is implemented.
For instance, he was the highest rank but could only find people of equivalent trophy values, which is the equivalent of pushing super high up in risk to where you can only find top 300 players in auto match and then you have to hope that enough of them queue.
Yes.Β I support the concept of auto-match for ranked play.Β My primary concern is the wait time for high skill point players.Β Hopefully, if the system is set up so that it matches you with the best available player fairly quickly it should be okay.Β The trick becomes if the skill point gap with the best available player is large, you havenβt accomplished much.Β If the wait is too long, people will quickly become upset and potentially give up on ranked play.
Clash of clans actually took an interesting approach as a solution for that - you now get 5 players preselected for you to attack (you just don't know who) - and can attack whether they're online or not (previously it was limited to offline only opponents)
On the time factor it's something that wouldn't have to be fixed (or it could be expanded based on availability only)
So if there aren't any intermediate players also queueing for games but there's beginners and experts doing so, it could have a 30s expanding range to reach available game rooms / searches
Yep, the only difference is that there is no offline/online mode in Risk, which means a "preselected" lobby isnt possible.
On another note, I cant rmember which game it was, but fi you could't find a match, it slowly expands the area it allows games to be found in, slowly but surely finding you a match although you may have higher ping
