I understand why people like earning points for second place; however, I do think that it looks bad when a system enables a player to reach the grand master level with a losing record.
 
Given the number of luck elements in RISK, if Elo remains the basis of the rank system, I think that the K factor needs to be reduced.  One could argue that the fewer players, the lower the K factor should be, as there is less opportunity to recover from bad luck.

The system already works like that at master + if you don't play in expert + lobbies. It only gets worse the higher you go. An elo based system also requires elo based match making. It already feels bad getting 2nd, because you lose several games of progress. This change would only put that problem on steroids

The way the asks about 2 different ideas makes it a little hard to follow.

Usually polls here have 1 idea, and you vote for or against it.

I would think that if you vote neutral, you are thinking both ideas are bad.

Yeah that's why I swapped to neutral. Yes is "I have no idea how to fix it and would be fine with anything" and no means "I would like a system that increases current problems even further". So I'm against both correct

Just use actual win percent instead of pair wise win percent

Going to a WTA isn’t a tweak. Increasing the points given to the winner and decreasing (but still giving points to) 2nd and third would be a tweak.

I'm just teasing i know what you mean 😛 im just pointing out that winner take all is also elo based so it still accounts for opponent strength.

I’m actually pretty surprised at the number of people in support of winner take all.

This is an interesting result so far. An overwhelming majority think there needs to be a change (based upon the other poll) and roughly a 1/3 would like a tweak to the existing system. Roughly a 1/3 are expressing support for a WTA system, and about 1/3 want something else. Well, at this pace SMG probably can use this poll as a reason to do nothing and leave the existing system in place.
