They have to end the alliance before they attack you? And in a prog game if they need to move through your 1’s to get a kill, they have to wait until they get your permission first?
I dont see a single problem this solves, but numerous problems it would create. If an ally wants to attack your territory, they’re going to. If you deny them by whatever mechanic it is you’re proposing, 9 times out of 10 people will just break the alliance and continue to do what they were going to do anyway.
it "solves" people backstabbing. but that isnt a problem, that is a part of the game.
the real problem that could use fixing is the naming of the option. because it isnt an alliance. it isnt really even an agreement over anything. its just extra ability to communicate.
a lot of people take alliances too literally and they pay the price when they are no longer useful to the other player.
But it doesnt actually solve that at all, if people can still just.. break the alliance when they want to backstab you.
It’s a game whose aesthetic is based on military campaigns, so the term ‘alliance’ is thematically fitting. I dont think the name really needs changing at all because within the theme of armies at war trying to conquer nations, a tenuous ally, who could end up turning on you at any moment, makes perfect sense.
