Almost a week late replying to this, but you're correct. Kubo's use of black and white, especially during TYBW, is extremely dynamic and color does detract from some of his tricks, especially with lighting/shading

"oh you think your character has power? well Bu fucking directed one individual Ki blast to each individual on planet earth 'causing the extinction of the human race in a single panel"
its the perfect stepup from previous villains that could already just blow the planet to pieces
my favorite panel from Dragon Ball is actually on vol.17 when Vegeta leaves the planet
the verticality and use of empty space give it a sense of distance and quietness after an incredibly long fight that took every character to their limits
after the silence of Vegeta's parting, the only thing you hear are Krillin's footsteps
he approaches Gohan and tells him its ok, now you can rest.
its an instance in the manga where we already had confirmation of that line of dialogue, and it was delivered through sheer panelling alone
panelling and composition are by far Akira Toriyama's greatest strength, and this is my favorite example of it
