I wanted to name the topic "Halloween event and why it sucks", but that would be clickbait. So here it is.
Imo such events are supposed to be fun because they are associated with real world festivities like Halloween, Christmas and such.
The event is well organized with regard to rewards as it is essentially a giveaway, without premium version like in battlepass. But event activities are not so good. One type of activities offers more or less traditional gameplay and requires some amount of rss (like dark mine); the others are mini-games (like pumpkin shooting) are free with regard to rss.
The primary trait of mini-games is being stressful. You can easily lose, while the number of attempts is limited. Also second try requires silver, and losing it hurts the most. And after losing players are fretting over possibly insufficient amount of pumpkins (eggs or whatever) for the last level.
As to the activities requiring rss, more than anything, they are tedious. Rather big maze of dark mine is doable, but annoying and repetitive, and time limit make it only worse. The odds of losing are low but still possible so related considerations from the previous paragraph are applicable here as well.
Possible changes:
- the main goal is to remove stress because fun event is not supposed to have that. It is achieved by removing the number of attempts per day (and the paywall). The only limit should the amount of rewards (pumpkins and such) per activity type per day. Skilled players will get the rewards as fast as ever, but other players will be able to do that too by spending more time. Also if players like the mini-games they will be able to play them as much as they want.
- not sure what to do with tediousness. One possible approach is to stop forcing players to use their own stuff. Instead they can be provided with festive armor/weapons (plus possibly heals) for each try. Thus players can concentrate on results and having fun. Provided stuff is removed upon try finish.
