Piercing damage/damage?

Hello, quick question : how the piercing damage/damage works?
I have 2 weapons and I am wondering if it is worthy to repair the rifle as it has lower damage (889 VS 1045) but higher piercing damage (42 vs 30).

Piercing damage inflicts true damage on the opponent, meaning it bypasses their defenses and directly reduces their HP. The total damage dealt includes both the regular weapon damage and the additional piercing damage.
