So... on a raid with level 5+ klondike set and a level 4 krag and buffs giving 3200 health, I stood face to face with one guy exchanging fire. I hit him at least 15 times before he died and I had to restore health at least 5, maybe 10 times. Is that normal? I don't see how I could ever win with 2 firing at me at the same time. Are they cheating somehow?

From what i know , alliance raids are one of the toughest challenges
It's hell on earth when you try to attack a wealthy alliance
You must fight defenders one by one , two at once is often death for sure
Even a single one can make short work of you
I'm not as advanced as you are , but once i got instakill in a sheriff set
1615 damage even with armor defense and firearm protection
But I restored health over 5 times with one on one. He can't restore health. Why can he basically kill me 5 times before I kill him once?
I guess it has to do with the armor he wore , the weapon , and the food he was fed with . Also , if the alliance was advanced enough , defenders had various bonuses
This was on the ground. I have killed defenders on the ground with 3 shots.
I know for sure there are some spots where defender gets bonuses . Not sure which are the bonuses or where each bonus is
You can check your own alliance base if developed enough , and see
Towers and balconies get bonus
I'm confident ground has bonuses too in some fixed places , but i'm not a raider or in a big alliance ... it's a piece of my knowledge which might be wrong . All i know is that raiding a big alliance is like trying to fight several canyon bosses at once

Only range bonus as far as I know... shouldn't affect damage

Defenders are not normal NPCs
Their armor stats are toe to toe what you can achieve
This is what the armor does ingame
They also have increased HP and range depending on what class
If for example you give them a full T6 epic set, they reduce 92 % of damage
That's around 14-15 shots with a maxed krag
Normal t6 npcs go down In 2-3 shots
That's because player NPCs (defenders) are far different from the normal npcs
They mimic the resistence and strenght of a real player using that gear

They're not to be compared to normal npcs
They can and will tank a dozen shots because of what they are

Made a mistake once, never again
Went to my first ever raid with a Ranger set
Got turned to waste in ONE shot
I didn't even see the guy on my minimap
Before I got met with the death screen
The efect of extended range in balconies or towers
They can shot you from such a long distance that minimap can't show

It's not normal but happens. Some players are more advanced and suited up guarding posts.
And if you attack bases at certain times you'll get hit easier. Best to raid at top of the hour and take out guards at power station as this will keep guards at elevated positions from hitting you easily. Think this shuts off the night lights so they don't see as good.
