Any idea where to get the pet bowl other than the old road or paying? The game keeps giving me impossibly hard old road bandits.

Old road is my favorite event, easy if you follow this strategy of just standing in front of the door and hitting the group with your shotgun.

You just need to know which door to stand in front of, it's sufficiently predictable, this guide will show you what you need.

I usually finish level 100+ hard with maybe 1 or 2 ointment heals at most, and I don't bother with my best armor, I usually burn down some of my used armor with Old Road (but don't try that until you're quite comfortable with the technique).

There are just three doors along the left side that everyone comes out of. Before accepting the quest just walk along and find the three doors you'll see them.

Staying with the wagon is a very hard way to deal with that event

So I go immediately to one of the pockets and hide there or use that as a way to trap the enemy?

You stand in front of it, you'll take a few hits but the group of bandits will stay clustered in the cave entrance so your shotgun will hit all of them at once

Okay so only do it with the shotgun, got it. I wasted like 3 decent guns (decent for me) and 1.5 sets of cowboy armour on my last attempt and I didn't win

Yup, shotgun works great there, 100 shots of my best shotgun only.

Recently my enemies on things like old road have upped to super hard (gives the green fabric and dark brown (cotton?) rope

I clear 3 old road events on a single shotgun.

Can you craft a shotgun?

If you can get a trench gun it'll handle the highest level bandits there easily, but lower level shotguns will work.

Yeah it really is

But anything about at least 600 damage I imagine will work fine. The lower the level gun the more hits you'll take, that's all. Still stand your ground at the cave.

Ohh I was using around a gun around 320 damage probably my issue lol

Plus it was a single shooter, whatever your best shotgun is just try that.

Make sure to follow the steps carefully, it's important to be at the correct entrance to do it, and make sure you clear all the solos before you start

Okay, I haven't been able to do bounties either recently because, enemies are so much harder

I suggest spending your silvers on rare blueprints. They're a game changer

I buy a few and only open them when I have a daily reroll opportunity

The easy and medium bounties are substantially easier than the hard ones too...

Might be worth being picky about the bounty is they're tough.

I just got a hard old road level 100, there's no harder variant of it. I spent 3 ointment heals and 50 shots of my best shotgun using this method. This is what I got out. The hard one is best because it pays so well. There's no other event that you can get this kind of loot for such low cost.
