#[PUZZLE-JAM] Ill Advised

still in need of more playtesting
I'm uploading my playthrough right now, but this took me one hour almost to the dot. It was very clever, but required a lot of repetition in cases of failure, and the way the mine behaved with the time recorder was sadly very broken. I would only advise having a clearer indication that the star at the end ||requires a box||, since from the ground that's not clear enough sadly
Overall, really enjoyed it :D
and to think, i could've made it even more repetitive if i wanted to lul
fair point thou
Here it is, all one hour of it if you're so inclined to watch. This was the first recorder puzzle I played in Reawakened, so forgive my rough edges near the start as I figure out how it works again
I'm really happy with the new pause function. A literal game changer!

i knew there was something broken
how would i fix that thou
other than making the level stupidly tall
actually it might work fine to make it a bit taller everywhere, hope nothing breaks in the process
updated, willing to take another stab?
Maybe some other time, I already played through 4 to 5 hours of custom content 😅
i know, i meant like tomorrow
I do not know why but apparently I have forgotten how to make stacks.
intentional game design
||it's not actually used in the map thou, maybe for another puzzle||
||I keep trying to do a mine sandwich to jump on top of to then get across, but fail as the mine doesn't obey the laws of time travel.||
I'd be curious to see if it impacts lasers going through it
Anyway, time to something else to get across
if i make the map even taller, i could make one of the sequences even sillier, but idk
i keep finding new recorder bugs
How many have you found so far?
I keep thinking I have a viable strategy, then fall through a time recorder box.
Or try to use a fan that a time recorder box is on
what has collision when recorded is so fucked
that's what the bug i found is related to, if i'm inside the recorded player, i can somehow jump like i'm standing on something
midair
in a fan
Thinking With Time Machine would like to file a lawsuit
i wonder where twtm got it's mechanic idea from
wait a minute
how tf did that thing come first
||I haven't finished the puzzle yet.
I would say first, as a generality for all puzzles: if there is nothing to see around the castle walls, you should lock the player inside. No point in letting us walk around if there is nothing to see. I think you could bring a little more decoration.
Then I figured out how to collect all the items, how to access the recorder, and I figured out that the mine had to be stored in the secondary airflow to be reused to climb to the top of the tower.
I still have the final step to do, the one I find the hardest to anticipate.||
any progress from anyone, or should i give a hint
At this rate... I would appreciate a hint. Please. Mercy.
I managed to get across with a jammer and could not grab the box.
how did you do so just to be sure you did it intended
because my hint will be different depending on that
||So I put the mine a jumping distance away from the fan, stacked the box on it then used the time recorder. I stacked myself, box, past self and jumped from the fan to the box on the mine. During the jump there is a split second window where you can make it to the other side. But you aare too high to grab the box no matter what you do. I figured out the ending part for the jammers but I need the box to reach the star.||
so i need to make the map even taller then, if you solve the map with that solution
||the mine is completely uninvolved with that side of the map for the ending, mine just goes back to the first spot instead||
Solved! Finally! The hint really helped me figure out what I needed to do.
cool, can you somehow show your solution
ig you can attempt that, plz do
||Short answer, Double jump||
Longer answer:
||I set up one of the jammers in "real time" to block the last door and placed the platform on the tower second to the top. This allowed me to make a stack in recorded time of fan, box, person, platform. I jumped onto the platform while holding the box and sychronously jumped with the recorded time to make the gap. Then in recorded time double jammed the last doors and grabbed the star with the box.||
...It is so difficult to explain the time recorder stuff for a solution I tell you what
only question left is ||how exactly did you put the platform back|| if you did that how i meant then you did the solution intended
Misremembered this method - It doesn't work, second method does
Does that make sense?
You can also do it after moving the mine back
||Time record and stand next to the fan with the platform, climb on top of stack using the box, grab box and place on mine, grab platform from ground and place on box. Unjam everything, voila||
Spelling corrections
I can go back and take step by step photos, but I'm a bit useless with video recordings
wait how do you ||move the mine over after putting the platform up||
ah
you forgot to say ||you used the time recorder in the first method||
but long story short, both solutions are overcomplicating it but it doesn't break anything
you can just ||put a time recorded player next to a box, and then jump next or onto the box||
so g, first intended solution solve
yep, i was expecting it to be a more brutal than usual difficulty for this community, but even harder than i thought
Honestly, a big part of it is also how confusing the time recording mechanic is when interacting with the environment. Especially around mines
Out of curiosity, what is the fence up the top for?
'Cause if it's to prevent jumping onto a higher stack, you can do the jump from the corner if you run diagonally
it's to prevent you from using a time recorded player up there to get across
also just realized i missed something you said and you did do something different in the ending, intended didn't involve any difficult timed jump, but instead ||placing the box onto the time recorded player and just jumping across normally, then having the time recorded player jump towards the end so you can grab the box||
so ig there is still something to fix
I mean, if the easier method is what's intended, you might as well leave the harder way.
The timed jump isn't super tricky.
exactly why i do wanna see if i can fix it, if it's easy enough to execute that someone would think it's intended
If you can find a way to patch it, power to you. I can't think of a way off the top of my head that would block that, that wouldn't also end up blocking your intended solution.
Wait, could you explain that last part again
'Cause I can't see how it would work
||place cube on recorded player, jump across normally, have recorded player jump towards the ending||
Ohh
||I would hate to miss the grab given how jank the reverse is when paired with the time recorder||
the grab has an almost unmissable window, and rewinding to redo it works
||'Cause I've had a present box fall through a time recorder platform after reversing||
||And I couldn't reverse it back to fixing it||
you can just reverse to when you had the box when that happens
