Would it make sense to have units pre-ranked to a specific rank for fairness across PvP? What are people's thoughts on this?

Nah, you can rank any troops you want any time you want.

#

Not to mention friendly pvp is first, so you have plenty of time to work things out.

That's what pokemon does to keep things fair but I think for BN its okay if everyone gets their units at the rank they grinded them too.

I can’t think of anything that would devalue the time spent ranking units more than this.

Have it as an option, Level locking. I think that'd be fine.

As for random PvP, the game has so few players, that I cannot imagine anyone waiting in a queue. Additionally iirc Madrona said they'd only have it for friends initially...

Id like it a lot for pvp, since the meta could call for a much more diverse set of units with new units becoming useful over time as balance changes or people develop new strategies.

It does not need to nullify sp grinding entirely, but it can, lets say, lock ranks at 4 or give all units a +2 ranks capped at max rank.

Otherwise, it'd stop being fun after the first week where you need to max another 500k-1000k unit each week just to keep up because it gained relevance in pvp.

My vision for PvP is using the already existing PvP unit values that Z2 created for every unit (but tweaking some of the oppressive ones to have much higher value).

But this time players should have complete freedom to choose what rank each unit is up to the highest rank they unlocked (for example, while my dust walker is R5, I cannot use r6 version, but I can choose if my dustwalker should be R1-R5 for that particular battle).

Yes it’s a hassle and yes it will make matchmaking longer, but at least I can sculpt my formation to achieve a specific unit value that I want to specialise in.

Not being able to freely choose ranks loses so much replayability for units that you maxed out for PvE content.

#

Let’s take another example with the frontier hunter. If I wanted to use it in PvP, I would ideally keep it at R3. This is because that rank is when it gets exactly 100% crit rate against soldiers for maximum consistency.

Using r4-6 frontier hunter gives me rate of diminishing returns as it raises the PvP unit value without proportionally giving me any new breakpoints.

So this system will help people explore the ‘Goldilocks’ PvP rank for each unit

#

Regardless, I have a strong premonition Z3 will butcher pvp

#

It will probably be up to the community to make their own banlists / rules for custom tournaments or such (if Z3 will even allow that)

I'd rather not have R6 grinds be absolutely mandatory to have a fair chance in PVP

As much as this could make thing fair in pvp it also spits in the face of those who put in the effort to grind the units. No point in needing to rank some units if they get auto ranked up for pvp

#

If you want it to be fair in pvp fight in a bracket with units on that tier that are ranked up until you get other ranked up

#

Calling it a spit in the face is kinda nuts and an over-exaggeration

#

you get to fight the AS with your ranked up units

#

demanding you get an advantage over people who either do not have the time, or just hate the (incredibly unreasonable) grind is very silly

If you want to be the best grind out your units… simple as

The grind itself already aint fun now you take away a big reason for ranking unitsCooked

I made it pretty clear I think the grind is ass, how are you still wondering that?

It would make the grind "better" not worse

#

By rewarding the grind

You reward grinding by making it useful

Pvp isnt even out. We don’t even know how it works and a few fuucking 🤡🤡🤡 are already crying before it’s even implemented…

Adding a mechanic and not tying it to the grind does not make the grind worse

Adding a mechanic and tying it to the grind would make the grind "better"

Hours of grinding should not be an entry requirement to PvP
There's already going to be p2w issues im pretty sure

#

If you're so desperate for your grind to have meant something... maybe wait until it would mean something before committing this hard?
