Before diving in, I want to establish, that I understand the point of the infection event is for fun, and none of the units are not particularly meta defining, so in reality if you don’t get the units you want, it’s not a a game breaker.
HOWEVER, the system itself is incredibly frustrating. It’s a steep odds slot machine built on a game of chance.
The drop rate of nano’s being so low, on top of the percentage for archetype’s being rough makes it frustrating when you finally get 5 black nanopods, pull the lever and get another proto infected.
So I propose two options for alleviating the frustration.
1st: the least inspired option, is make infected units of the same “species” share SP. This at least mitigates a little of the pain of grinding your super rare percentage archetype.
— I’ll admit, I’m not sure this is doable from a code standpoint.
2nd: A much more inspired option, is let us MERGE identical infected units into the next higher tier.
- this is the best of both worlds, it still encourages grinding the black nanos but also offers bad luck protection.
- additionally this eliminates roster bloat
Here’s how I would make it work, we will use Shredders (archetypes only have a 10% infection chance) as an example.
- the merging would happen in the Infected testing facility
x4 PROTO shredders can be merged into x1 BASE Shredder, takes 2 hours
x4 BASE Shredders merged into x1 Advanced Shredder, takes 4 hours
x4 ADVANCED Shredders merge into x1 Archetype Shredder, takes 8 hours
This pic includes, shows how the current example is extremely unrewarding, and frustrating.
