I know defences are kind of useless in general right now as there are no player invasions but the cannon tower is awful compared to the other defences, 60 hp with no armour? That's worse than a pillbox.... I would suggest giving it at least +40 Armour (total health 100) so it isn't totally useless.

The main problem I have with the cannon tower, is you pretty much are gridlocked at pillboxes until you unlock blockhouses later. Cannon tower is supposed to fulfill that middle-ground, a bit stronger and more expensive than a pillbox, but not as strong/expensive as a block house. Thing is, it doesn't do that. As far as defenses go, i'd take a pillbox over a cannon tower any day.
The cannon tower might be made of stone, but its so brittle, I bet the big bad wolf could blow it down and send the little imperial piggie inside running for the hills

The canon towers main use is as a tank, early game the pillbox’s attack makes it far more valuable but late game the canon towers rubble becomes more useful

If you were going to say used as a tank because it has AT sure, that would make sense! But, it's really just completely useless. You build it because quests force you to.
Back in the old days, it was used as a mini-tank repellent. Now that there's no invasions, and you don't encounter rebel formations using the mini-tank super early, there's nothing. It just exists.
