#Sponsored on GitHub, no repo access :(

If this happens to you the usual case is you chose to use "One Time" and that does not grant you access to Source Repo.

It is a limitation of GitHub Sponsor program

Another cause of this sort of issue is just down to timing, it can take GitHub a bit to process your payment and all and they don't set access till that is completed.

Do let us know if you have any issues @weak egret the system is all automated and driven via GitHub so should simply work for you.

To recap for others reading along

Common Causes

  • Time
it can take GitHub a bit of time to process, you should get an email letting you know that they have processed the sponsor and a little welcome message from Heathen along with a link to the repo
  • On Time Option
dont use it, it doesn't grant you access to Source Repo
  • Patreon but didn't link GitHub
Patrons get access as well, this is done through a GitHub integration between the two companies, so you need to have your GitHub linked

Well I had done the recurring, and did not do the one-time (which is clearly laid out in the interface as the wrong option).

#

It must have just been the delay. So please remove the words "instant access" because it is in fact, not that at all.

#

I additionally paid the full $75 for the Unity asset store package so I could, indeed, have instant access.

#

And then decided that there were far more features than I needed for my use case, and far too many layers of additional dependencies and additional assemblies, and removed it from my project.

#

Ended up just using the SteamWorks.net package directly, which is all I needed.

#

So thank you, and I would consider you a far more sincere company if you could please remove the completely false "instant access" claim from your marketing about sponsoring on GitHub.

#

Good luck, and I'm likely to return to your project if I need extensive SteamWorks features in the future. ๐Ÿ˜„

(For reference, my card was billed by GitHub at 8:28am yesterday my local time, and the welcome email and access came today at 10:23am... about 26 hours of non-instant access later)

You gain access instantly when the payment is processed that is entirely a matter of GitHub processing your payment and them granting you access upon completion of that payment.

Similar to Unity Asset Store or Patreon or Unreal Marketplace. Heathen doesn't do any of the payment processing we work through 3rd parties such as Unity, Epic, GitHub or Patreon

For most people payment processing is truly instant though we have seen delays a couple of times in the past.

Our Toolkit for Steamworks is built on top of Steamworks.NET, it handles all the boilerplate work for you and has a slew of tools built up from there to help with various use cases

I am sorry if you have a poor experience joining GitHub Sponsor. That is not typical for most users I will let GitHub know about the poor experience and it would be useful if you did as well, let them know about any issues you had joining the Sponsorship program

#

I will let them know as well

#

I have seen it take 20-30 min before

#

usually its litterally instant

#

but I have never seen it take a day+

#

so clearly some issue on there processing side

#

I could have manaully added you had we connected in conversation sooner

#

I have done that for a user in the past when it was delayed teh 30 min or so

#

Well bad timing because I posted this yesterday, and it looks like you saw it then too. Oh well.

#

Well, I had a deadline to get basic steamworks integration done yesterday, and this was not helpful. But seeing your library taught me a lot more about integrating with Unity than I knew before, such as I couldn't really just use the SteamWorks SDK natively in Unity. So I consider it a $90-ish educational journey ๐Ÿ˜„

#

o and we do have a free version that would have gotten you basic integration for free

#

teh Foundaiton package

#

its just a lite version of the complete package

#

does the basic initalization, has stats, achievement and user data

#

it also brings in Steamworks.NET so the full SDK is there for you of course

#

I couldn't find the directions to add it to the Unity package manager, and went round and round and round between the KB, marketing site, GitHub, and this Discord trying to get anywhere useful. Buying in on the Unity asset store at least got me somewhere helpful in terms of integrating and trying things out.

Spent about 90 minutes in limbo between the various Heathen resources (posting here as well) then finally gave up on the docs. They are very nice, but how to design a game or form a business was not the kind of "getting started" I was after ๐Ÿ˜„

#

We do SO MUCH more than just a Steamworks API wrapper ๐Ÿ™‚

#

so ya that KB has notes on everything from general game dev

#

to setting up a Steam developer account

#

we have other tools for other engines as well

#

so lots there ๐Ÿ™‚

#

the Search in the KB is AI assisted so should have helped some

#

it uses GitBook Search whcih is Lense based

Thanks for everything today. I wish we had connected yesterday instead, but it worked out.
