#The Colonies are kicking my ass...

How is the bartering different over there?
yes same, I hate the UI there but now that devs straight up went dark with no end in sight, it might be time to swallow it and just get used to there. Are you saying competition is tougher there?
They talk out loud about what they are thinking and doing. They overtly make these transactiins like "I will rob someone else if you promise not to block me", they talk about who is the front runner and how to come against them and they do it actively together like the person isn't in the room. I wouldn't say they are unfriendly, they generally are, but they chatter A LOT and some of the ways they barter and trade I didn't know was possible. It's probably a lot like how it goes in real table games. I need to learn the ethos of Table Talk for sure. I don't say much at all in universe but I'm usually in my quiet introverted happy place when I'm playing too. Also, I'm either playing horribly or they are really good.
I'm not doing as well there as I do in Universe. And I'm with you I hate the UI but I am adjusting. I think what's killing me though is the psychology of bartering and trading there.
Yeah my usual is Treasure island so I will have to check out the pricing. Though, yes that sounds good, because that should be part of the game, it's still strategic to negotiate - make and break alliances as game goes as in real life and in tournaments. Would make it more interesting and I actually asked Catan Universe here if they would add voice channels for exactly that but they said it would be too hard to control how nasty/jerk-like people can get online? Which to me, what is the difference of people insulting others in the chats vs in voice channels but oh well
yep, brought it up a year ago when they were still at least answering customer queries hehe So just spend 2 hours on colony games, honestly still really hate the UI, but getting used to it. The most startling positive element has been mostly how much people do use the chat functions there and actually all polite so far. Also, their discord literally has a section for developers to contribute and customers are given coins for any new bugs they report. Really feel like CU should be doing the same. Honestly I would not even mind ads in between games if they can actually maintain a working game.
Anyways, for people interested, here is what I I found out: it is pretty expensive though for expansions (20 bucks for seafarer + c&k), and most people seem to play base game for that reason, also ads will still be on both sides on website unless you are a monthly subscriber which is crazy expensive (14bucks a month)
so we have an estimate of how many active users Catan U has, is there a way to see how many on colony?
colonies is more difficult than universe, there are more hard players than in universe. Also, IA plays good and is well balanced. the ones who have played only universe are getting hard playing colonies
time to move there, catan universe is inside the dark
Yeah it is really different you are right. I am not sure Universe should try adding anything seeing how this migration is going lol. But you're point is right it would make it more real world. And I don't know what the difference is between a written chat versus voice people will be jerks no matter what.
That is interesting
That makes sense. They have sure humbled me.
i like that you can play 1v1 but I wish it was on steam and not a browser thing -if you are talking about colonist- if not, what is this and where can i find it lol
u can play 1v1? omg is amazing, i dont have to deal with the trading slowpace, how i do that? do i need to pay? i dont see this options
It’s possible we are talking about a different game - this one is a browser based game which kinda sucks but also is kinda nice - I’m not sure what I think about it but right on the main page without playing I can play 1v1
can u link me?
pls
I messaged you directly bc I don’t think they allow links here
Can you please send it to me also? Thanks!
