Shadow is off and refuses to launch, I've tried everything, there's no error, when I press Start Again, it loads up and then stops without any error. I've tried to switch on alpha/beta, I reset the launcher settings, I turned down the bandwidth, I changed the streaming preferences, everything... Any fix? It often happens during the evening

Same here. I believe I am on the Frankfurt datacenter.
Client is stuck on "connecting to shadow" and after a few seconds snaps back to "shadow is off", no error message.
I'm on Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS
About 2 hours ago it still worked on my parents laptop, a Windows machine. On my desktop back home it's now dead.
On my Android phone it's dead, too, but does not time out.
What I tried so far:
Logged out of the client and back in
Restarted the PC
Deleted ~/.cache/blade and ~/.config/shadow, set up the client again with speed check, etc.
I guess it's related to this?
No wait, that's Strasbourg, nevermind, lol.
Me Too. In Frankfurt
same frankfurt as well
what always helped me was the alpha client, theres a question mark where u can restart everything but it takes 40 mins +
If you login on the website you can see some details of your shadow pc.
Mine says "angehalten", which means "stopped" or "shut down", so the client isn't able to even start the VM.
Ah!
I think it might work again!
Yep, my shadow just came online.
Nice.
its the same for me but still stuck on it for hours, i always try the browser work around but still stuck
only thing ever helping is complete restart for 40 mins :(
but its going online rn for me too
finally its getting up .D
in case u ever face the issue that the browser doesnt start either i can only recommend u to dowload the alpha client....theres an option there to fix ur virtual machine. Within 30 mins or so normaslly the machine is up
Yes, but be careful.
If it takes 40 minutes it's probably the "complete reset function", meaning it deletes all your data and reinstalls the entire os.
This should be only used as the absolute last thing you try.
You can also trigger this on the website if you log in.
nooo it doesnt delete your data, its jsut a complete restart. I assume all clients are running as virtual machines and have per default paused as setting if they arent used for a while. In the admin dashboard of shadow admins u can also turn it off and on...idk if u ever worked with virtual machines but there are 3 states, off, paused and on and for us paused and on are what we can decide on
its like a hard shut down u know
like ripping electricitiy from it, i know a bit about virtual centers
atleast so far my data was never lost
thats why i assume it works the way i explained
i just use it for steam anyway LOL
After you do this, is your steam gone and you need to install it again?
no
all there
all settings i ever done to windows too :)
its just a hard reset like cutting electricitiy
like i explained machines have the state off, paused and on.....per default shadow only ever pauses machines. That can sometimes prevent them from starting and bring them into a loop. To cut the loop u need to completely shut them down
sadly takes around 30 mins to completly restart depding on what ur machine all has
u only have this option in alpha client tho
hope u understand german otherwise ill translate
idk its alpha client, not official client
it installs some things and does updates on ur machine in order to use this function
u can also revert to official version tho
u could just call it shadow management software
OK, so this re-installs the drivers and some software.
That might explain why it takes longer.
and all data remains as u can see
but only use it as last option if browser doesnt work
normally browser does it for me, but sometimes it just doesnt
I only knew about the complete reinstall function. Really good to know this.
if u encounter an error during that, just press new start and revert to official version and BOOOM works
swapping between alpha and official does always the trick
alpha version still has issues with controllers thasts why
but its not normall to do to such lengths to get a virtual desktop working which u pay for 50 euro a month LOL
i have that issue once every few days its annoying
