#Camera for Head Tracking
35 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
I'm not sure you can use the built in camera for that. It might need to be a usb camera.
Dang... That's kinda annoying but ok. Thanks!
for head tracking it could be achieved easily with a recent iphone if you have one
another option with a webcam, is to use opentrack over network (opentrack + tailscale)
I was using opentrack and AITrack before on my old windows laptop but now on Shadow I have to find a different solution. I didn't know you could use a phone though
why do you need another solution ?
Because I can't use my built-in webcam. I was using the built-in one on my old gaming laptop but I switched to mac so I got shadow which can't use my built-in webcam
Smart Head Track is a head tracking app that supports OpenTrack.
It is designed for use with action game and simulation game.
It tracks the position and orientation of your head without extra device.
You only need the app and OpenTrack open source software on your PC.
It will work with games that…
Thanks man!
requires tailscale in that case too
But it says you're able to just connect with the IP of the pc so shouldn't I be able to just directly connect to my shadow?
no
@vestal glen Hello Alex. Thank you for the info above. Could you please advise on how to use tailscale to forward facetracking info from opentrack app (on my notebook) to Schedule PC when you have a chance? I am trying to get facetracking for IL-2 game on shadow, but have no idea now how to do that. Thanks a ton in advance!
not all webcam works for facetracking if that's what you want to do
provide more details on what you want to achieve and with hardware details
@vestal glen Alex, I installed opentrack on my SurfacePro7. It has embedded cameras, and I am thinking of using the front one for face tracking. I checked the software and it works with the cam indeed.
i also connected the notebook with my ShadowPC using tailscale. IL-2 game is installed on my ShadowPC. Looks like the connection works as I can stream the game to my Oculus Quest 3. It would be great to use my SurfacePro7's cam for facetracking in IL-2 (on my ShadowPC). You've mentioned "opentrack over network (opentrack + tailscale)" option above and looks like that what I need. But i do not know how to implement it unfortunately. Could you help me with that? Please let me know if you need additional details.
not sure where you are stuck, opentrack and tailscale on both SurfacePro and Shadow, you connect your SurfacePro's Opentrack to Shadow using Shadow Tailscale IP
you just need to select UDP as input source on Shadow in opentrack and select freetrack (If I remember correctly)
sounds like I have to install opentrack on shadow as well, right?
I am not an engineer, therefore have no good understanding of how computer networking works..
@vestal glen Alex, thanks a ton! Looks like it works now. The pictures look inverted though. Do you know by any chance how correct that?
Pictures below..
don't know and you are using an old version
@vestal glen Alex, thank you for letting me know! I installed the old one as the new one looks to be buggy (based on info on the picture..)
@vestal glen I'll install the new one though as you've suggested
in settings you can try to invert Y axis assignement by ticking invert checkbox
@vestal glen Alex, thank you! 👍 I'll try inverting Y after I install new versions on both machines and will let you know of the outcome 🙂
@vestal glen Alex, just to let you know, looks like disabling "Center at startup" option on "Shortcuts" tab and setting centering method to "Disabled" (on ShadowPC) helped to remove the mismatch. Now the squids are in sync 🙂
@vestal glen Thanks a ton for your help with this matter!!!
👍
