#Stream Freezes and barely uses any of available bandwidth

I've been having issues with the stream freezing within 1 to 2 minutes of starting up the Shadow Power PC, or immediately after I open up an application on Shadow Power PC. This issue has been mainly seen when using the Shadow PC app for Windows 11. Shadow PC works fine on my iOS devices, and when I launch it on browser on my PC (albeit on browser it is a bit laggy). When I check the network usage using the overlay in the app and in Task Manager, I can see that for the first 15 to 30 seconds after starting the stream, the app uses up a solid amount of available bandwidth (anywhere from 25 to 60 mbps) and the stream is smooth and responsive. However, after this time period, the network usage sharply dips to below 10 mpbs, usually hovering between 1 to 5 mbps, and then the stream becomes incredibly laggy and freezes. I have tried using both UDP and TCP network protocols, and neither have worked. After switching the network protocol, there is again a small time period of high bandwidth usage during which the stream is smooth and responsive. Afterwards, the usage abruptly drops again, and the stream freezes. I have tried restarting the Shadow PC, as well as my own PC multiple times, and have tried configuring my network adapter, however to no avail. I have a 500mbps fiber optic connection and I am using ethernet, so my internet connection is both stable and fast. My PC is an Asus ROG Strix SCAR 15, and specs are: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, GPU: RTX 3080 Laptop GPU, RAM: 32 GB @ 3200 mhz. It would be amazing if I could get some assistance with this.

in automatic bitrate mode, if network link is unstable, it will lower bitrate until stable again, if it's never stable it will stay low

#

best is to set it manually to a value your network can sustain

#

when you said iOS devices works fine, is it using same home wifi internet or mobile network ?

#

give details of your network, if you are using wifi bridge, powerline, etc...

I have tried setting it to 30, 50, and 70 mbps manually, and it hasn’t worked. The iOS devices are both using the same home internet. I’m using a wired Ethernet connection directly from the router using a CAT8 cable. The router is one that my internet provider gave me upon installation. For the iOS devices I’m using the 5 GHz band. The most interesting thing is that I can stream from GeForce now on the same network at 4k 240hz with no issues on my laptop.

#

anything that could tamper with the network, application wise ? firewall / antivirus / security app ?

#

exit lag ? VPN ?

#

if you are using wifi with your laptop directly, no improvements ?

#

which shadow DC. are you connected to ? (you can see that in shadow launcher help pane, at the bottom if unsure)

#

you made test in both ipv4 and ipv6 (by default shadow will use ipv6), there's an option in launcher for that

vapid verge
#

No firewall, antivirus, or VPN. I’ve tried using WiFI directly and have seen no visible improvements. I’m connected to Shadow CA East, since I am in Ohio. I’ll test my network speed and get back to you.

#

Unfortunately my IP has not enabled ipv6

Sounds good 🙂

Should i use TCP or UDP?

regal dragon
#

and DM me your shadow.log after (on local machine, win+r %HOMEPATH%\.shadow) (only shadow.log file)

#

UDP

vapid verge
#

Ok

regal dragon
#

do a shadow log code too and paste it here please (from shadow launcher help pane, send log icon)

vapid verge
#

I just tried opening up Microsoft Edge on the Shadow PC and the stream froze

regal dragon
#

win+alt+r unfreeze it?

vapid verge
#

Didn't work :/

regal dragon
#

restart stream manually from quickmenu (there's an icon for that) ?

vapid verge
#

Badnwidth usage is currently showing 1.6 mbps

regal dragon
#

it's normal when not playing content/gaming, shadow only stream what is necessary

vapid verge
#

Manually clicking restart didnt work either

vapid verge
#

Entire app is frozen, one second

regal dragon
#

after sending log, while I look at logs, try to change decoding setting to use FFMpeg and try to start it using your discrete GPU (maybe on your machine you need to force it, either by right clicking on shadow icon and you'll have an nvidia menu or in right click/properties of shadow icon)

vapid verge
#

Sounds good. By the way, the shadow menu doesn't have the log icon

(ok, If I'm not seeing something in logs or find anything you select the conversation and you can just open a support ticket with all of that data or just reference this thread for support)

vapid verge
regal dragon
#

interesting log :p

vapid verge
#

haha 🙂

regal dragon
#

on your local machine, have you ever used game optimizer (cortex, hone.gg), change network adapter settings, regedit ?

vapid verge
#

i have done regedits to optimize for Star Citizen. I also have Razer Cortex installed

regal dragon
#

do the same in TCP please, and send log again

vapid verge
#

instead of using automatic metric

vapid verge
regal dragon
#

metrics are only useful if you have multiple routes

vapid verge
#

to assign higher preference to that adapter/network 🙂

#

yeah thats true

regal dragon
#

but that's unlikely the issue

#

have you done some other changes ? :p

vapid verge
#

no other changes done on the network adapter haha

regal dragon
#

disabled fragmentation in network adapter settings or other settings ?

#

I'm really not a windows expert but you may try a "network reset" to make sure, something like that (this should, clean it up and reboot)

vapid verge
#

its running on tcp right now after i set decoder to ffmpeg and forced discrete gpu. Its slightly better. Now stream will resume ocassionally instead of being permanently frozen.

#

MNQDLD

regal dragon
#

show shadow.log

vapid verge
regal dragon
#

another good looking log haha

vapid verge
#

lmao yeah

#

going to do a network reset real quick

regal dragon
#

yup

#

🤞

vapid verge
#

network reset is done

#

lmaooo

regal dragon
vapid verge
#

gonna have to run it again and see

regal dragon
#

send shadow.log, it will be quick to see, once started

vapid verge
#

4k playback is not too bad right now. Stream does have stuttering and occassional freezes though.

#

ope it just froze

regal dragon
vapid verge
#

yeah its been stuck for more than 2mins now

#

ill send logs

#

ZPCBGQ

regal dragon
vapid verge
#

Nope. just my home network. im in an apartment

regal dragon
#

ISP name ?

vapid verge
#

Zentor internet

#

*Zentro

regal dragon
#

uncommon here I guess :p

vapid verge
#

yeah its a local provider

#

might have to switch to ATT

regal dragon
#

may try to VPN it, try to install warp and retry

vapid verge
#

Warp from cloudflare?

regal dragon
#

yes

vapid verge
#

ok. also any specific vpn i should use?

regal dragon
#

just warp for now

vapid verge
#

ok

regal dragon
#

if you have nordVPN, it may work too

vapid verge
#

just installed warp, so ill try that out

regal dragon
#

if it's a small local ISP, you may also get in touch with them, it's possible you may even get a better support than large ones, you could be triggering protection or something using shadow, I'll give you some details in this message (UDP/TCP 5000-16000, ASN: 64476 / 396919)

vapid verge
#

don't have nord unfortunately :/

vapid verge
#

Getting error code V-100 when trying to start with WARP

regal dragon
#

shutdown from shadow launcher help pane, close shadow app, wait a few minutes and start it again

vapid verge
#

sounds good. Also, could running icloud drive on my pc affect it?

regal dragon
#

unlikely

vapid verge
#

ok sounds good

#

Unfortunately i got the same error again

regal dragon
#

that's sad, but clearly something going on with your network

#

I'm out of options here, but you have a lot of content for shadow and Zentro support :)

#

at least we tried :)

vapid verge
#

yeah thats true 🙂

#

maybe i could try with a different vpn

#

by the way, should i just export this conversation for the support ticket?

regal dragon
#

you can link it most likely. using this link : https://discord.com/channels/460948857304383488/1307810555654049884

#

but it's better to still give key information in your mail (log codes only, no need to attach shadow.log for them)

#

once ticket is opened you can also reply to automatic mail to add attachements, such as screen capture

vapid verge
#

awesome, sounds good 🙂

regal dragon
#

keep me posted, I'm curious if they find additional informations :)

vapid verge
#

i just started testing it out with Proton VPN on the Canada Servers, and it seems a bit better. Still stuttery though haha
