#Lazychanger - A 300mm V2 toolchanger

#

I've been fascinated by tool changers lately and seeing as i don't have a tool changer right now I decided to build the absolute best one I can (without completely bankrupting myself that is) :D

The base of the machine will be a Formbot3d kit with an upgraded Vorlong/Doomcube style frame for extra gucci points.
Going to add a Stealtchanger with 5 AntHead toolheads and a Fysetc cnc carriage. The gantry will be monolith 9mm awd printed from Tree PC BPT GF.

Plan changed and right now i intend to install indx on the machine. Should save me a lot of money time and effort.

#

reserved for later use

#

Already ordered a lot of the parts for the build. Base kit is from fystec. Extrusiosn have been ordered from misumi. Because the frame is extended in y i will also need new rails, think im going with youmetong this time around.

naive coral
#

Just ordered fans and a raspberry pi cm4 from aliexpress/digikey.

molten linden
#

Uhh another one chefkiss did you already ordered the fystec CNC carriage?

naive coral
#

only thing that's left to order is a new bottom panel (because i extended the frame in y for more room for printheads also means that the panels that im getting in the kit wont fit)

rugged juniper
#

Finally joining flying gantry gang? heh

naive coral
rugged juniper
#

More like the prodigal son returning then heh

naive coral
naive coral
#

Formbot kit and a Digikey order have shown up. It will sadly still be a while until i can actually start building.

robust yew
#

Hell yes, Ive been pondering toolchangers as well, just for the cool factor no real reason nor need chefkiss

naive coral

New toy to dry and anneal pet-cf has just arrived!

lavish junco
naive coral
#

So my plan currently is as follows:

  • Hotend: will be a tz 06 cause im not finding anything that i like any better and in case im not happy i can always upgrade to a chube compact.
  • Extruder: WWMBG with a RIDGA gear and a smooth idler.
  • Toolhead: il try and print a Anthead to see how i like to assemble it and in case that doesn't work out how i like it then maybe Yavoth.
  • Gantry: Printed Monolith ofc but 2wd seeing as i want the motion system to be a little less complex.
As for colors im really liking white + purple with a silver frame!
naive coral
#

So that tz plan was just thrown out the window

robust yew
robust yew
naive coral
#

If i where to buy them in eu then id pay 177€ vs the 140€ i payed at west3d!

naive coral
#

Starting to anneal some test parts. Prepared a tasty (salt) cake that is going in the oven for 6h at 120c!

cloud sparrow
#

nice

naive coral
#

Parts have now beeing in the oven for about 6.5h First thing i noticed is how hard the salt became after beeing dried for so lang.

#

After taking them out of the salt they where ofc still covered in salt but a quick wash took care of that for me.

#

It doesnt quit show on camera but the annealed cube (right) has a blue hue while the none annealed cube (left) is just black.

#

The parts for the wwbmg extruder do also still fit together and no part has warped. As for size changes i haven't measured all the parts just yet fully but it appears that the parts have shrunken a lot more in the z direction vs x or y witch is interesting but overall shrinkage seams to be bellow ~1%.

A bunch of stuff has shown up this week, including my aluminium extrusion order from Misumi!

lavish junco
naive coral
naive coral
#

Spend the better part of today drilling and tapping all the aluminium extrusions using a neat little tool that i originally designed for my trident build!

naive coral
#

Ive kinda given up on pet-cf for this build. Ordered a couple roles of TreeD PC-PBT-GF and some asa for accent parts.

naive coral
#

And the frame is done! chefkiss

#

I did learn a lesson while building the frame. Should i every build another machine then I'm defiantly having the aluminium extrusion precision cut by misumi because some of the cut angels where not that perfect as they could be.
The diagonals where measured as well and they are pretty much spot on witch is really good!
The second to last piece to the shopping spree has also concluded with me placing an order for 450mm rails for y with airtac!

robust yew
#

What size vertical extrusion did you end up with for what Z height? Next big thing for me is also 4040/2040. but also have to decide if I convert to tool changer taller z or keep stock Z 🤔

naive coral
#

personally i think tool changers are the next big thing

#

and if your already buying a new frame might as well go and install stealtchanger into it

lavish junco
robust yew
naive coral
#

But more then half of this stuff is just gonna end in a box somewhere lol

#

I really dont know if self sourcing would have just been "cheaper" lol

naive coral
#

Aluminium extrusion for the bed have been installed. Ive also got a bunch of stuff incoming that might possible arrive tomorrow or more possibly on Monday.

#

Installing the bed extrusion was harder then it had to be. They where just ever so slightly to long to fit inside the existing frame but a file did make quick work of that problem!

naive coral
#

Ive been busy today! The ordered deck panel showed up yesterday and the grey mat color looks awesome!

#

Also assembled the external z drive / feet today. Ive had some hybrid ceramic bearings laying around thats i used for 2 of the 4 drives.

#

And mounted them on the frame :)

#

Nextup is mounting all the electronics and z linear rails. Also the TreeD PC BPT GF has shown up so il be calibrating that material and starting to print all the required gantry parts for monolith.

rugged juniper
#

Didn't go with the Micron2020 z drives cat_sad

naive coral
#

and i do really love the stock z drives, they are really well designed and just work

robust yew
#

Are you doing sidepack too? And have you looked into g2z xl? Not sure what its benefits are besides space savings 🧐

robust yew
naive coral
naive coral
#

and no, no sidepack this time around. im kinda hopping that im not going to regret that decision later

robust yew
naive coral
#

sidepack on my trident is awesome and it makes working on it super easy .. working on the printer on the other hand requires to remove the sidepack (if you say wanted to install cpap)

naive coral
robust yew
#

Mine weren’t machined all identical unfortunately 🙃

#

Had to play with shims

naive coral

ah yea .. average funssor quality lel

Chubechanger - A 300mm Toolchanger

fair spindle
#

@naive coral toolhead boards have arrived. catjam

naive coral
#

commit atrocities every day indeed!

fair spindle
#

I did decide yesterday. I will be doing this machine as a 2 head chubechanger. fsck it. Why not. LOL

naive coral
#

i finally finished my #1317580899184807976 sidequest and started printing for Chubechanger cat_hype

naive coral
#

Turns out I am the @ancient dirge now.

fair spindle
#

I am just going to stay casually behind you so I know what not to do 😛

naive coral
#

but knowing me my adhd will get the better of me lmao

fair spindle
ancient dirge
naive coral
#

If only you could get him to build the damn thing jakelaugh

fair spindle
#

We need a meme of "look at me, I am the capybara now"

ancient dirge
naive coral
#

Damn he truly is ahead of his time hehe

ancient dirge
#

I just had to help him fix his Micron and gift him a pair of 2240s for it

#

That kicked him into gear

naive coral
#

guess the magnet is now a bit more engraved kekwiggle

#

I really do want a bed with integrated magnets in the bed

fair spindle
#

Keep it up and you are going to NEED one

#

🙂

naive coral

Or so I've heard

Printing plate one of two of monolith parts over night. Now i just need the rails and the katten3d order to finally arrive.

robust yew
robust yew
naive coral
#

Well that went about as well as expected. Guess a full plate of pc parts aint on the table and il have to print them one by one.

robust yew
naive coral
robust yew
naive coral
naive coral
#

Stuff just showed up cat_hype

naive coral
#

Linear rails and extruder motors have shown up as well! cat_hype

#

First time using airtacs and they feel incredibly smooth!

hexed cape
#

hmm, yummy pancakes in the back

naive coral
#

Goal is to have every toolhead be an exact replica of the one before it to minimize the ammount of tuning i have to do.

#

Printing parts right now and they are looking awesome! chef_kiss

fair spindle
naive coral
#

Pc bpt gf doesnt need it so i wont do it.

#

Less things to do is sometimes a good thing jakelaugh

#

But i wanted to start building the gantry today and wanted to print the last few parts overnight but #1317580899184807976 had different plans and the replacement chube heater failed as well so now i have to wait for a replacement heater from 3dkatten.

fair spindle
#

Oh, that sucks cat_sad

Less things to do is almost always a good thing. 😉

naive coral
#

But its not like i can actually finish the machine since im still missing my chubeees

fair spindle
#

I will challenge anyone who says that we don't have great vendors

fair spindle
naive coral
#

Yea 3dkatten is awesome!

naive coral
fair spindle
#

Since I am leaving the supports toolhead as a bambu hotend, it is easy enough for me.

naive coral
naive coral
#

Finally ordered the last pieces that I'm going to need to get Chubechanger up and running! 500W of 24v (even with a bit of derating) should be more then enough seeing as motors will be powered by 48v!

solid belfry
naive coral
naive coral
#

Using monolith belt clamp with the fystec carriage should work very well!

#

Needed to sand the top part down a bit for the clamp to fit.

#

Belts are gonna be held by the slm belt clamp and pressed in place by the cnc carriage with the use of some 3d printed parts.

#

It should still give me a very rigidly mounted carriage with the downside ofc that the toolhead will now be moved forward by 3mm but im ok with that!

fair spindle
naive coral
fair spindle
naive coral
#

just gotta print a couple and see what thickness works best

naive coral
fair spindle
naive coral
#

oh your going to have soo much fun jakelaugh

fair spindle
#

Hey, at least it is round shaft motors. I am not completely crazy!

naive coral
#

ah good! yea belt sync without beacon is annoying

#

but round shaft motors should help a lot

#

funny enough i have never manually synced belts with Tridentbert

fair spindle
#

Worst case I will run a usb ADXL on the back of one toolhead

naive coral
#

but i know you hate having more then one mcu jakelaugh

fair spindle
naive coral
solid belfry
#

Damn

#

That looks amazing

naive coral
#

build the left motor as well already

#

y rails are on

solid belfry
#

Gosh get a razor blade already

naive coral
solid belfry
#

Takes 5 seconds

naive coral
#

yea z squish was a tiny bit to much

#

its already gone

#

noticed it after taking the picture

solid belfry
#

I just got my s45rs that I ordered for 19$ a piece and they sent me monolith branded ones!

naive coral
#

ey nice!

solid belfry
#

I know it is just a laser etch but it is cooler than no logo

naive coral
#

the monolith once are nice cause they got a 2meter cable

#

basically all other motors come with a 1 meter cable

solid belfry
naive coral
#

will be so nice to have long enough cables to reach all the way to the stepper driver, even on a bigger machine, will be awesome

#

but my adhd didnt order enough of the live shafter idlers so panza gotta rescu me .. again kekwiggle

solid belfry
#

They look so cool

#

Did I show you all of my beautiful stepper drivers? Lol

naive coral
solid belfry
#

I got the fans done on them last night but I forgot to take a picture

#

Fans make them look 10x uglier

fair spindle
naive coral
fair spindle
#

I can definitely say that based on the feel of the shuttle, I am going to be retrofitting it onto my TAP and boop machines

naive coral
fair spindle
naive coral
#

oh yea lol

#

ive got it sitting on my desk and playing with it right now kekwiggle

fair spindle
naive coral
naive coral
#

A bit insane how tiny that 500w 24 UHP psu is compared to the 200w lrs cat_happy

rugged juniper
naive coral
solid belfry
#

It is a bit longer and wider than a uhp but it is essentially 6 uhp 250w psus

hexed cape
naive coral
#

but 400w is more then neough for what i need seeing as there will never be a situation where all 5 tools are heating up at the same time

naive coral
#

i dont see a situation where all 5 toolheads would heat up at the same time for calibration really

naive coral
#

Installed the gantry today. Plan for tomorrow is belts and then start working on electronics.

#

With a bit of luck i might have a moving machine by the end of the weekend.

solid belfry
#

How tall is it?

naive coral
#

one hell of a tall boy kekwiggle

solid belfry
#

I think that is nearly as tall as my stealthchnger I am building and it is a 350

#

mine is exactly 900 with the feet

naive coral
#

mine is a 300mm .. so yea would make sense that its 5cm smaller haha

solid belfry
#

Sexy rails

naive coral
solid belfry
naive coral
#

very much kekwiggle

solid belfry
#

They were so damn cheap and he got me testing units as well

naive coral
#

oh damn

#

yea i payed like 90€ shipped for both

solid belfry
#

265 shipped for my rails. I already had the x rail though.

naive coral
#

not bad at all

solid belfry
#

Testing units were free but I will be doing a documented long term test on them

#

all metal rails for y axis

solid belfry
naive coral
#

yea im plaing on doing that as well

#

z is gonna be double carriage at some point

#

and x might get a special from Brazuka

solid belfry
naive coral
#

also cause i can kekwiggle

solid belfry
naive coral
solid belfry
#

should be pretty nice.

naive coral
#

putting monolith cnc on this machine is a bit of waste seeing as its a toolchanger and the toolhead is all floppy

solid belfry
#

I have the vitalii z joints on one of my printers but the monolith ones look way beefier

naive coral
#

but not like ever listened to facts or reason lel

solid belfry
#

I have one in the works, mikeymike has one in the works and I think a couple other people are getting close as well

naive coral
#

maybe possible

#

there is stuff thats still hidden that should help .. but hidden for now 🙂

solid belfry
#

The floppiness has to do with the center of mass, not the inherent design of the shuttle and backplate

naive coral
#

well yea

#

but a toolchanger will never compete on the same playing field as a fixed fully com focused toolhead

solid belfry
#

yeah

naive coral
#

but ive kinda given up on the speed aspect

#

who cares about speed when one has two printers

#

id rather get strong parts that look all pretty vs saving 20 minutes

solid belfry
#

should be close though. I think this one I am designing is going to be up there with some of the most overengineered non cpap toolheads.

naive coral
solid belfry
#

My toolchanger is not intended for speed at all

naive coral
#

yea same here

#

i just went with 9mm belts cause why not

solid belfry
naive coral
#

im aware jakelaugh

#

i dont think im going over a 60c chamber with this one

solid belfry
naive coral
#

no idea just yet .. might just make some out of wood or something funny

#

im a sucker for nice wooden accents everywhere

hexed cape
hexed cape
naive coral
hexed cape
naive coral
#

but maybe for panels id be fine with wood

hexed cape
#

or just aesthetic, wooden extrusion covers maybe

naive coral
#

but wooden panels would look pretty good maybe 👀

hexed cape
#

if you wont be able to get over 60C in chamber you could do thing acrylic and thin wooden sheet, glue them and theyd come out to about 4mm thickness

#

To be honest Im not sure at all if it could be done with any available tools

#

but idea is an idea

#

😄

naive coral
hexed cape
#

or you could double panel with wood only, that would maybe leak less heat

ancient dirge
hexed cape
ancient dirge

Damn

#

Making 3d printers look like bar cabinets 👀

naive coral
#

And the belts are on cool_finger_guns

#

@fair spindle

#

Monolith belt clamp + the cnc carriage works wonderfully as well.

fair spindle
# naive coral

Oh, that is perfect! I will order a SLM one on monday. I am figuring on belts making it new years week at some time.

naive coral
naive coral

Just found this build log, glad to see I'm not the only crazy person doing a Chube Toolchanger. Though, looking at yours, I think I need to step up my game. Mine is just a stock 2.4 LDO kit 🙁

solid belfry
golden locust
#

This is/was my test toolhead, I have since reprinted all the parts in ASA-GF.

naive coral
#

im hoping to get my chubies in January or else il have to rename the project to "Chubechanger without Chubes" lol

naive coral
golden locust
#

I do, I have 10 of them for various printers 🤣

naive coral
#

wow

#

mind giving me .. say .. 5 of them? kekwiggle

golden locust
#

PPS-CF Anthead on my Doom, with a Chube.

naive coral
#

but jokes aside im sure sure they are gonna come soonTM

naive coral
#

could think about adding a splash of color :P

golden locust
#

They are worth the wait.

naive coral
#

oh yea #1317580899184807976 already has a big chube and its awesome

golden locust
naive coral
#

pps cf is awesome .. especially once annealed!

#

i do kinda need to figure out homing tomorrow

#

monolith requries y to be homed first and then x because the x limit switch isnt on the carriage but fixed on the y extrusions

#

but stealtchanger with beacon requires x to be home first or else youd risk the y limit switch getting hit with the beacon cable 🙃

golden locust
#

Interesting. I guess I would assume you would do Tap, rather than Beacon. But 🤷‍♂️

naive coral
golden locust
#

It works for me, but to each their own 😉

naive coral
#

oh it works i just like having super fast bed scans 😅

golden locust
#

Makes sense, it's interesting but I have MRW Magbeds on pretty much everything. I do plan on running Beacon on one of my future builds (with Big Chube and Takeoff)

solid belfry
#

I ordered them a month and a half ago

#

I also preordered a mini but I have my doubts as to when that will come

solid belfry
golden locust
solid belfry
golden locust
#

Way better, the flow is insane if you push them. I actually had to start printing faster to keep up with them. I decided to move everything over. I had gone down the Revo path, and I was just tired of clogs and other issues. I am standardizing on Compact and a .5 TC nozzle.

#

The only bad thing is the heater wire in the first few batches was super thick, which is really a pain on Anthead. Hartk had to add more room in the wiring channel to make it fit (and it's still tight).

solid belfry
#

I swapped away from rapidos after I had a couple scares

#

The dragons were supposed to be temporary

golden locust
#

I wish I had made that switch earlier. Revo .4 HF and any filled filament was 😡

solid belfry
#

Yeah

#

The revos are super slow

#

I have to keep flow at 17mm³

#

With the rapidos I used 26 but I had a couple have runaway temps

#

No more ceramic heaters

#

I had one catch on fire and the other one just turn the toolhead into mush

#

PC toolhead too

Also looking really good!

#

im liking the all black color lol

The color in CAD isnt quit right

fair spindle
naive coral
fair spindle

That is a nice purple!

naive coral
#

It very much is, gonna look awesome once done

#

i still gotta print all the extruder pats but im trying to add a little purple as well into the mix

fair spindle
#

Yeah, I made those colored panels as inserts so I can change them out pretty easily if I ever want to.

naive coral
fair spindle
naive coral
#

ive been loving the long shaft omc 2504s on #1317580899184807976

#

this one is using the monolith branded 2504s from ldo

fair spindle
naive coral
#

Chubechanger is 2wd cause a toolchanger is already complex enough

fair spindle
#

No motor_sync allowed as there will not be an accelerometer on the toolhead. I am running 4 extra strans down with the pigtails though just in case I loose my mind trying.

naive coral
#

oh damn your in for a very fun time then

fair spindle
naive coral
#

yea likely lol

#

i just hope that il be getting my chubes soonTM .. ive got like everything here but the hotend for it to be a 5 toolhead toolchanger

#

gonna use two tz 2.0 v6 in the mean time and 2 toolheads is better then none but still 🙏

fair spindle
#

Same. I did print off bambu clone versions of the A4T to hold me over.

naive coral
#

tbf until i can actually get the 2 toolheads to swap reliably il likely have the chubes in hand

#

im a bit scared of the whole klipper configuration and im not making it any easier on myself by using kalico

fair spindle
#

Same. going hard mode.

naive coral
#

litteraly im using the klipper toolchanger hard fork (cause its kalico compatible) kekwiggle

fair spindle
#

Yup thats what I was referring to 🙂

#

My only real dilemma is that if I skip the AWD, I can add 2 more toolheads and that might be fun.

naive coral
#

but im totally sure if you actually loose a toolhead by going awd

Monolith 6 tool AWD toolchanger in #1305231072992301208

#

Rapidburner Goliaths.

#

ongoing build for over a year, just had to take a long break thanks to life.

solid belfry
#

Ahh ok

#

I am running awd for my stealthchanger build

#

But I am also working on getting a tool head together as well as an slm monolith carriage

solid belfry
solid belfry
#

That is 80% of the limiting factor

#

The umbilical mount is another one but that has mostly been solved with coil spring stock

#

Until the center of mass can be fixed by making a stealthchanger specific toolhead there is always going to be extra leverage on the coupling and inability to get good input shaper results

#

It is a lot like a vzbot except worse because the tool heads are heavier

naive coral
# naive coral

@sour crest have a look how i have solved said problem

#

Sinplest solution is the monolith slm belt clamp that you put inbetween the x carriage and the stealthchanger carriage

sour crest
#

i can't find them anywhere

sour crest
#

how does that fix it? the issue for me isn't the belt being too forwards lol

#

moving the carriage more forwards won't do anything for me

#

its' the XY joints that're the issue

#

they need to come 2mm or so more forwards so i can pass the belts back in this way lol

#

orrrr i just get the belt locks somewhere

naive coral
sour crest
#

moving the carriage forwards isn't the fix for this though.

#

i'd need to clamp the belts onto the carriage itself

naive coral
#

have you actually looked at what ive done? 🙂

sour crest
#

yeah

naive coral
sour crest
naive coral
#

yea the silver bit is the slm bilt clamp that you clamp the belts into using the cnc shuttle

#

and because the slm belt clamp is designed for the monolith gantry the belt spacing is now correct

sour crest
#

yeah i'm confused cos my belts are aligned with the mgn12

#

like if i didn't have to clamp them inverted

#

for me this would just push the belts out further

#

oh wait

solid belfry
#

@naive coral do you have any updates?

I did almost finish one toolhead so maybe il get that one up and running in the next week or two

#

But from lukes update post it does kinda look like that the chubeC's are delayed once more :(

sour crest
#

I caught it 2.5 weeks ago, still fatigued Asf. Wish you a speedy recovery and hope it’s not A

#

It’s funny that ur waiting on tool heads and im waiting on gantry

naive coral
naive coral
#

got a couple differnt projects going on right now as well that have my full attention

hexed cape
#

Yea, about five weeks plus shipping, we'll be glad if they arrive before SMRRF

sour crest
#

reprap 😄

sour crest
#

my gantry will take forever to dial down

#

i'm thinking of using printed instead of sheet metal spacers

#

and i'm also running a carto instead of stealthtap so got a lot of umbilical fuckery to figure out

#

you got a serial for the printer yet?

Toolhead Nr1 is all wired up. I havent pluged it in just yet cause i still need to double and dripple check every connection for wiring errors.

naive coral
#

Fired the printer up and nothing blow up! 🥳

#

T0 is configured as well. Now i just need to figure KTC-Hard out and get the first tool working 😅 🤯

acoustic lake
#

why are you using papilio? Always been interested in it but haven't had a reason to try it out

naive coral
#

Docks have all been installed as well.

acoustic lake
naive coral
acoustic lake
#

just don't make it a permanent temporary thing heh

naive coral
#

im trying jakelaugh

wind gorge
#

I installed it the other day, I followed the ktc-e setup on stealthchanger.com and then wrote up the ktc-e to ktc-h migration instructions on the ktc-h GitHub (bottom of the main readme)

naive coral
sour crest
#

nice docks! I see you fit a rossbar too

#

Man I'm really jealous that you can fit 4 magnets

#

I can only fit 2 with the rapidburners

wind gorge
sour crest
#

rapidburner goliath

wind gorge
#

it doesn't have 4-6?

sour crest
#

nope, 2.

#

i had to design the goliath mounts myself

#

the dock frame left/rights

#

how do you have 4 mags on dragonburner / where's ur magnets?

wind gorge
#

same bottom half geometry as dragonburner right? I wonder if you could smash 2 stls together in blender or something

sour crest
#

i can CAD, isn't the issue

#

i'm curious where the magnets are

sour crest
#

very interesting

#

i could just redesign the cowl and bottom one

#

granted everything's printed in SLS so it's pretty expensive to replace.

#

I miss my old formlabs buddy.. they quit

wind gorge
#

darn, maybe 2 is good enough for alignment though

#

with 4 I can tip my printer on its side and it stays lol

sour crest
#

it's good enough for alignment, not for holding the tool in place while i tilt the printer to work on the e-bay

wind gorge
#

ah yea

sour crest
#

broke 3 cowls or so thanks to that

#

also tbh the alignment isn't the best either with just 2

#

i should just design a new cowl that supports 6 mags and use that bottom base

#

rn i'm adding a spacer to these screws to bring them out far enough, then docking with screws on magnets lol

#

so it's even weaker than most 2 mag setups

#

this is an upgrade i can think of in the future for sure

#

if i was using standard rapidburner my life would be so much easier

#

but nooooo I had to go with goliaths.

#

@naive coral sorry to hijack your thread!

wind gorge
#

ooh do you have a build log? Im cuious of your extra long rapidburner

naive coral
naive coral

there is a version with the toolhead board infront already but there aint no cover for it and that would just looks really bad

naive coral
naive coral

It took a while but with a lot of help from the Draftshift Discord one toolhead its finally printing!

wind gorge
#

naive coral

I wonder if the readme section I added is helpful since no one has tried the route before

naive coral
wind gorge
#

Oh nice!

#

I wrote that part hehe

naive coral

oh nice .. yea it was really helpfully in knowing what files i needed and where to put them

wind gorge
naive coral
#

i mean the docs are better then expected tbh

#

i expected a whole lot of nothing in therms of documentation :D

wind gorge
#

Yea it was very nicely made

#

(the website)

naive coral
#

Next thing i need to focus on is desinging acm panels and getting them ordered

#

id love to print asa sooner rather then way later

#

And for insulation im thinking about 10mm cork sheets. It would fit very nicely into the machine

solid belfry
#

Wait

naive coral
#

*without blowing up my bank account that is jakelaugh

solid belfry
#

Did you get your chubes?

naive coral
#

lol

#

i wish

#

im using a tz v6 2.0 right now

#

Not bad for a first print!

naive coral
#

I kinda wanna try Antpap but that appears to not be happening cause the lowered extruder interferes with the anthead carriage

#

i do like Papileo and it prints realy nice (from the two prints ive done lol) but its so incredibly wobbly that im not really feeling confident running that setup long term

#

Ive spend over an hour today trying (and failing) to modify Anthead + papileo to maybe make a Stealthchanger compatible Antpap but Fusion is not playing my game :(

#

Not entirely sure what im gonna do 🤔

unkempt sierra
naive coral
#

the lowered extruder is "by designed"

unkempt sierra
naive coral
#

i dont wanna and id rather have something that already works then taking on yet another project

unkempt sierra
#

would adding some height to the extruder base interfere with it while the tool is docked? probably wouldnt help AT ALL with how wiggly it is but could bolt it up in another spot if youre going that far

#

but also i agree, more work than anyone wants to do haha

patent tulip
#

Jakob's using FPVGeeks anthead x pap usermod

naive coral
patent tulip
#

I believe, so a little more involved than a spacer, yeah?

naive coral
#

it very much is yea

#

its basically a compeltly rework of the extruder/toolhead

unkempt sierra
#

im trying to load the TBG/HGX version but fusion is doing fusion things lol

patent tulip
#

pap does have that badonkadonk

unkempt sierra
#

dont think itd be noticeably shorter plus youd have to do the whole initial rework lol

naive coral
unkempt sierra
#

you can use the cursed EBB front housing for enders and add a motor mount to the front

#

lol

patent tulip
#

oh, the 3rd point isn't in teh user mod?

naive coral
#

its a bit of a shitshow jakelaugh

patent tulip
#

Since Kev did say it publicly in his papchannel, would 19mm body be thin enough to clear the carriage mount? Once the new design is finalized

naive coral
patent tulip
#

I know, I'm talking thinner. so it would be bringing that whole backside and center of gravity in. Cause judging by the screenshot it's the rear housing of the pap that's interferring with the carriage, right?

naive coral
#

and also the stealthchanger carriage is mounted with 3 screws, one of them beeing at the top .. but that should maybe be fine

#

mhm there would be enough material to remove some from the extruder plastic without issue witch would then allow the carriage to mount

sour crest
#

@naive coral can't believe you're printing already, congrats 😂

#

my z belts are off and the gantry is set to come out, every tool is also disconnected and needing a full rebuild

#

serialize it 😄

naive coral
#

this might actually work 🤔 Still need to clean all the parts up bit but i should be able to print one for testing soonTM

naive coral
#

but maybe delay @fair spindle package a bit more so that im defiantly wining jakelaugh

sour crest
#

😂 its getting shipped out tmr @fair spindle

sour crest
#

i found box and packaging, it's cute and tiny

#

@naive coral i really woudln't recommend cpaped stealthchanger

#

that sounds like an extra umbilical nightmare.

naive coral
#

yea im not gonna lol

sour crest
#

😂

#

i'm so excited

#

i've halted progress until my 6mag cowls & docks arrive

#

& ofc the carbonara x beam parts

#

but yeah @naive coral i've received all the cartographer mounting & umbilical routing parts

naive coral
#

nice

sour crest
#

in pc-abs

naive coral
#

fancy stuff

sour crest
#

well the slspa12 version of them are coming soon 😂

#

i'm a little curious which is stronger. PC ABS or PC-CF?

naive coral
sour crest
#

and pure pc-abs, pc-cf

naive coral
sour crest
#

o7

naive coral
#

but there aint no "pure pc"

sour crest
#

in3dtec is printing me some pc-cf

naive coral
#

there x differnt base pc / abs polymers that you can choice from

sour crest
#

so i'm excited to try them out for functional parts

naive coral
#

gotta read datasheets (and understand them) to make an educated guess at what is better :)

sour crest
#

ugh. Now I wish i serialized Froron before chubechanger 😂

#

now it can't print anything, the z belts are off and all the same size now 😂

#

i'm planning on a full re-wiring of the e-bay as well

#

my scope creep knows no bounds

#

but yeah @naive coral i'm having to resort to ratchet strapping the tools and the docks together to be able to tilt and flip the printer

#

this is really not ideal, and i'm super excited for Formlabs to send over the newest PA12 cowls & docks with my 6mag mod

wind gorge
#

I worry 6 magnet would be too much sticking force lol

sour crest
#

well it's 4 6x1.5mm magnets sticking to 4 6x 2mm magnets, and 2 m3 screws sticking to 6x3mm magnets

#

so technically.. there's only 3.33 magnets

naive coral
#

why do none of the cad files match up with themselfs .. thats the stealtchanger carriage

#

thouse two screws should be centered on the hole onthe black part

#

but at last they are not

sour crest
naive coral
#

i dont wanna start reworking perfectly "good" parts

#

yet another side quest wont hurt me .. right? right???

sour crest
#

are you sure the mate there is good?

#

it seems offset to the side a little bit which would explain not being centered

naive coral
#

going to bed now

naive coral
#

and is quit a bit of interfernce between the duct fan and the extruder body

sour crest
#

is this fusion btw?

#

i'm still struggling with solidworks, no clue how to do most basic CAD shit cos i'm ass

naive coral
#

The pain of my existens

#

But its free so il accept the never ending pain

sour crest
#

i am a filthy linux iso yoinker

naive coral
#

Im printing all the parts that i think i would need for Antpap and im gonna start chopping parts of by hand to see if i can make them all fit and then modify the files 😅

#

Also the logo on the front of the toolhead is getting removed. Im open for suggestions what else to put there! I could write C H U B E across all the toolheads 🤔

naive coral
solid belfry
#

🙁

#

Yes and we need to make sure that luke stays angry while he takes forever to get us the mini chubes

naive coral
#

So ive printed all the parts for Antpap with as little material as possible for testing. Choping one of the papileo partsand a stealth changer spacer up seams to work just fine

#

The carriage will need to modified as well to leave space for the motor

#

But all in all it seams doable.

sour crest
#

why

#

😭

#

actually yes do it redo all your tools as antpap

naive coral
sour crest
#

😂

#

yeah i mean r u actuaully planning to run antpap stealthchangers

naive coral
#

just ignore the hot garbage print quality

sour crest
#

damn that looks pretty good too

#

i agree

#

oh did u print it on chubechanger?

naive coral
#

on the trident with 300x speed jakelaugh

#

and a apparently not so clean nozzle .. ig a broken nozzle cleaner doesnt help ey

naive coral
#

So looks like my plan is actually going to work! Onlything left to modify is the Stealtchanger carriage and design my own toolhead mounting thingy

naive coral
#

Gonna start a testprint soon to see if everything fits together!

#

The top logo will still need changing but il do that once ive confirmed that all parts fit together

#

Onlything that i dont yet know is the toolhead board mount

sour crest
#

@naive coral so what is this for 💀

#

Also, you should build a madmax stealthchanger

#

that will be funny

naive coral
sour crest
#

anyways so ur gonna antpap?

naive coral
sour crest
#

It’d be sick

#

I’m just waiting on someone to use a 120mm server fan

#

Duct it into a coap tube lol

naive coral
naive coral
#

Think a big fat monolith logo at the top and a smaller Stealtchanger one at the bottom would do nicely

#

Looking good Jakob!

naive coral

I really need to get one of them so I stop pulling a 5kg spool directly with the WWBMG

naive coral
sour crest
#

Lmao same here but what do they even really do

candid stream
#

Just bought another as I want to try to connect it via USB

#

Should work better as it can be added as a secondary extruder. Also bought a kit, as I want to try a couple mods for the printed parts. And their printed parts are atrocious hehe

naive coral
#

Im thinking maybe on the top or maybe on the sides

thorny spruce
naive coral
#

Continuing the toolhead development .. ive extended one more screw to make it so that it is now also responsible for holding the entire extruder together since i had to remove one screw when i shortened the base lower cover!

naive coral
#

ive also added support for pc4-m6 ptfe connectors as I'm not a fan of the ptfe couplings that you push into a part! The threads into the part are formed by the pc4-m6 connector itself!

sour crest
#

wait, these are belt driven extruders?

#

what extruder is this?

#

that's so cool, i assume super soft filaments right

wind gorge
#

papileo lite!

sour crest
#

very cool 😄

#

what mounting pattern?

#

Wonder if i can just directly plop it on rbgs

#

interesting sherpa mini

#

i might build a tool for this

verbal folio
naive coral
#

the integrated design isnt mine (just to make it clear) im just modding it to make it fit my toolchanger build 😅

#

but yea im loving the look of it and how it all interlocks!

gusty dove
#

Who made that?

#

I really should spent more time with 3d printing things 😄

naive coral
gusty dove
#

Ha, I know him!

naive coral
#

So its not pretty .. but it might maybe possibly actually work 😅

naive coral
#

Tweaked the outline of the mount a bit more to make it look less garbage jakelaugh

#

Only thing left is the cable/strain relieve mount and then i can start a print before i go to bed later today!

naive coral
#

Strain relive is designed as well. I'm hopping that the channel + screw is enough to hold the flat spring coil down!

sour crest
#

i'm quite excited to see this work 😄

#

i'm going to figure out mates and stuff in solidworks as well so i can design RBGPap

naive coral
naive coral
#

Parts have finished printing! Sadly the backplate and one Papileo part have warped badly and will need reprinting!

#

If all goes well il have them all bevor i go to bed today so that i can start assembly tomorrow.

sour crest
#

Is the multicolor done with chubechanger?

naive coral
sour crest
#

Make a really big neopixel for that

naive coral
#

a lot of wires for nothing and also kalicos is_non_critical wont work

sour crest
#

i'm never switching off of base klipper probably

naive coral
#

how can you say that when you have never experienced perfection

naive coral
#

Well ive assembled the printed backplate .. and its not moving very nicely at all :(

#

Its the same printer and same (dry) filament with the same part (except a tiny cut-out) printed in the same direction as the current backplate. Id wish we had cnc backplates cat_sad

#

ive put the backplate in the trident chamber, maybe that will help a bit

#

Putting the backplate in the printer chamber, waiting till its hot and then putting it on the shuttle seams to be doing the trick!

sour crest
naive coral
#

This looks .. so good!

naive coral
#

It does kinda suck but TreeD Pc PBT GF really does need to be printed part by part or else one is in for a bad time :D

#

On the upside, supports are an absolute joy!

#

This cake definatly does come in layers but damn is it tasty and man will it suck to dissasmble later on 🤣

#

Backplate also fits like a glove!

violet rapids
#

They have layers

naive coral
#

Very much!

naive coral
#

Extruder is assembled and the backplate has also finished printing and its flat!

sour crest

That looks like a very complex extruder haha

#

i think i'll stick with my WWG2 for now

What do yall think, is this too much purple? I kinda wanted to filament change after the first couple of layers with the ducts but the trident isnt complying with my wishes lol

#

And i think the fan grill will be black 🤔

naive coral
#

yea ive tried idk how many times to print the ducts in two colors but my trident aint complying so single color it is for now.

hexed cape
#

I think it's balanced pretty well in terms of color

sour crest
#

far superior than my pa12 grey 😂

#

i like to go one color then use LEDs to change the theme up

naive coral
#

guess this machine will have to print mutli color prints for itself then, just have to get the chamber hot enough jakelaugh

wind gorge
#

I wish there was a setback in the front profile where the extruder is

#

currently it looks a bit tooo unified (imo)

hexed cape
naive coral
#

So good news is that the parts all fit together, bad news is that tolerances really do stack up and i can not for the live of me get this heat set insert to line up :/

#

It does look like the hotend mount is leaning back a bit

#

Going with a toolhead with a single body would have made this all so much easier...

#

Guess i found the issue. The slid that should hold the hotend isnt perfect, even the ptfe tube is slightly bent.

#

This is a sideways view from the toolhead. The way its designed right now is that the hotend mount must be right up against the top layer of the extruder but because there are supports used here and pc bridges like not at all, that seams to result in less space witch in turn moves the hotend back.

#

I would need to move the hotend forward by about 1mm witch isnt really possible cause there is not enough space .. maybe alter the hotend mount part but i would really prefer if i did not have todo that.

#

Anyone got an idea?😅

#

maybe il really just modify the hotend mount and call it quits 🤔 The little lip on the hotend mount is 3mm, i can easily remove .8mm without really weaking the mount.

#

maybe il remove this feature entirely and just have one big support block witch would make printing a lot easier. I dont really see a reason why this wasnt done in the first palce and this change would also keep compatibility for all anthead hotend mounts.

#

yea no wonder this thing doesnt fitt well lmao

#

something like this should work. Would also make support removal a lot easier.

sour crest
#

@naive coral

#

if you're awake

#

i'm using some piano wire but i am still missing any form of wire protection

naive coral

Played around a bit and this should work very nicely! Printing a part right now and with a bit of luck my plan will work out.

naive coral

Looks like it might just all fit!

naive coral

why add weight 🙂

naive coral

This has to be the cleanest toolhead i have ever build :3

Gonna power it on tomorrow and then its time to figure the toolchanging part of a toolchanger out.

naive coral

don't forget a heatsink for the tmc2209!

#

and i'd stick a small heatsink on the stm32 and then mount a 14k rpm 3010 fan on the cover lol

Oh haha yea i should maybe add that, thx!

naive coral

this cover is awesome

Working with Contomo rn to get the first multi color print going

#

i really could not do this without their help lol

wind gorge
#

Lol yea contomo is a huge help

naive coral
#

Would you look at that, its multi color printing!

#

It did fail because the umbilical cable got hung up by the frame and it pulled the toolhead of the carriage but il fix that very soon as well

naive coral
#

Ive also ordered a Fystec Hexa distro board because my current plan of using a usb hub isnt going to work very well (because of space constraints).

#

Next thing on the list is ordering panels .. im trying to figure out if its worth it to design them in a way where i have to bolt them to the frame or mount them to frame the same way stock vorons do it 🤔

#

i doubt that il take off very often, so maybe just a couple of screws for mounting

#

screws would be a lot less annyoing then the stock voron way lol

tepid salmon
#

plus direct mount would add some rigidity

naive coral
#

i doubt it since im not using aluminum 😅

#

gonna use 3mm acm in this build

tepid salmon
#

I feel acm would still help?

naive coral
#

possible but no idea really

#

im already using a 4040 frame and this isnt a speed machine so its more then rigid enough :D

tepid salmon
#

ah didn't know it was 4040

naive coral
#

main goal is for it to seal the chamber well and not be a hassle to deal with

tepid salmon
#

then still frame mount

#

or annex clips

naive coral
#

and alu panels are giant hassle to deal with lol

tepid salmon
#

yeah that makes sense

naive coral
#

sadly no nice puple lol

#

but it think im gonna go with gray to match the frame 🤔

tepid salmon
#

Not a bad plan

naive coral
#

and inside is gonna be covered by 10mm cork sheets for some minor insulation

#

plan is a chamber of max 65c for some colorfull asa printing

tepid salmon
#

Yeah that sounds preem

naive coral
#

Added some very temporary cable sleeving to stop the cables from interfering with each other

naive coral
#

Layer stacking with Papileo is insane! There are some very minor vfas assuming you look at the right angles that is.

#

Currently ive got two challenges that i need to address before i can actually print unattended:
1: The umbilical's still get in each others way and knocking each others toolhead of the dock.
2: The filament being hard to unspool and the extruder pulling its toolhead of the carriage.

#

Both can/will be solved soonTM. For 1 ive already got the correct flat spring steel here, i just need to print the correct part for the frame to attach them.
As for 2 all 5 ordered Mello LLL plus should show up within the next week or so.

sour crest

hexed cape
#

I've seen some CAN expansion backpacks

#

Other than that I believe you can trim the cable to desired length

naive coral

right now they are long enough to reach into my ebay, so the plan is to have the usb distro board hidden in my ebay

hexed cape

@naive coral usb or can?

im not touching can with a 10 meter stick jakelaugh
