#CAN Communication Issues

I have an ebb36 board from Bigtreetech on my xol toolhead. Previously I had issues with constant communication timeouts during QGLs, but eventually I found that a bad connector was causing the problem. Just this week I upgraded my Tap to Cartographer. Initially I ran it over CAN with the 120ohm resistor on the toolhead like is recommended in the documentation. Once again QGLs started causing communication timeouts and mcu timer too close errors. In the klippy logs I saw that it was getting invalid data transmits on the Cartographer. I could see this clearly when doing resonance testing because it visually 'lagged'. The toolhead would stop and then continue with its shaking, in mainsail I could also see the data lagging and then catching up. Next, I soldered the pins on the Cartographer to terminate the CAN there. This seemed to have helped, but I still occasionally get errors. the cable and molex connector look good, the cpu isn't being overloaded, and mcu temps are 50c at the highest. I might try switching from CAN to usb and I'm wondering if the Bigtreetech CB1 is the problem. Any help would be appreciated.
