I just purchased a very old 2.4 and it's currently not booting it has a pie that is password protected and I don't have the password currently I'm not sure what my next steps should be for fixing it but the machine is showing no signs of life other than some LEDs in the pie boots up
#Printer I just purchased isn't booting and I don't know why

You need to get it onto the network, so you can recover whatever they have in there for a printer.cfg
(Wired network should let you into mainsail or fluidd, and from there to download configs)
Once you've got that, you probably want to go scorched earth on the pi and reinstall it from scratch
Isn't there already pre-made configs for the R1 variant of the 2.4 ?
I'm more concerned about getting the printer to just boot outright so starting from scratch is a preferable option
Sure. So let's just assume everything is wired exactly stock, and there aren't any mods. Great, go from scratch
But...is the scenario? do you know that everything is wired exactly the default way?
Do you know exactly what every sensor is?
It looks to me like there is some canbus wiring in there
Everything looks stock and original to the kit they said they used
Everything except for the clicky clacky sensor thing
Personally, I think it is ludicrously foolish to nuke it without at least making a reasonable attempt to grab the config, even if just for reference
Just because if you nuke it, and discover there's a question, it's way too late
Okay so like just plug in Ethernet cord into the pie on one end and a old computer on the other end?
That's kinda the last resort
Are you wanting to avoid just plugging it into your network as a security concern ? Or...
I mean the other option I was considering was to just drop it off at a local 3D printing store and offer them a lot of money to make it to work
IDK about network security and whatnot because the laptop I'm going to using is going to be air gapped
The main problem with the network where I am is that it's extremely unstable so all of my printers use manual transfer for sending files and whatnot
Well, it should work. A direct link , the pi and the laptop should eventually both take self-assigned 169 addresses, once they give up on dhcp
huh?
What
Dude I've purchased this printer 3 days ago and I've been on the road since then getting home and I was so hoping for it to just turn on and I can plug in SD card into it to make it print I don't have enough energy to try to make it connect over Network when it doesn't appear to show any signs of life other than the pie booting up none of the fans turn on no nothing
It's 10:00 p.m. at night I'm going to go to bed see you in the morning
Klipper...doesn't really do that. It's all about network based printing and control.
As it happens, I did make this a while back, which may help some, but...
So what would I need to install on my computer to connect to it if I don't know the IP address And it can't connect to the local network because it password protected
You've got some reading to do, and it sounds like you're tired. I suggest we pick this up tomorrow (though I fear my availability tomorrow isn't going to be great)
ok
Okay I'm up now what do I need to do to the printer to make it work
Alright, so things that occur to me.
1.have a look through. https://docs.vorondesign.com/build/software/ssh.html
It covers a number of relevant topics, including finding the device on your (very small) network. Mdns should work, using the hostname seen in your screenshot. (Mainsailosvoron.local)
- Have a look at https://docs.vorondesign.com/build/software/configuration.html and https://docs.vorondesign.com/build/startup/ and https://canbus.esoterical.online/
Just for a sense of the alternative: aka, what you're getting into if you dont recover the old config
I'm going to go cry I thought this printer was going to be just plug it in upload some files to it and just go I'm going to probably end up putting in the pile of other broken printers I have that need replacement main boards and whatnot also what is this thing in the back corner I assume it's the bed probe
I don't think you've posted any photos that I can see what's in the back corner, so I don't know for sure. Could be a dockable probe like klicky, or you could just be referring to the z endstop
Yeah I was trying to upload photos but my phone isn't working right now I'm pretty sure it's a dockable probe cuz I know where the Z and stop is
As for the larger picture: you bought somebody else's complex diy project, and they didn't even provide you a password for the computer that's at the heart of it. Unfortunately, plug & play isn't a likely outcome...
Well that 3D printing store that I live near is opening in about 20 minutes so I'm going to call them and ask them for some help also this was a kit printer it was a "magic studios, with ldo motors"
Voron kits are just a way to get a bunch of the relevant parts bundled up in a box
Its still a complex diy project
It's not the same as like a prusa kit or something
Yeah I get that I'll probably call that store ask for a bit of help
Be interesting to see what the store says. Do random 3d printing stores even do klipper stuff? 😛
west 3d
It's like 40 minutes away so I'm going to call them first and say hey can I dump this problematic machine on you and pay a ton of money to just have it work
If you are wanting it to run stand alone, one thing you'll definitely want to do is upgrade the screen to a klipperscreen style touch screen
(Which obviously is something west 3d can help with)
Yeah I've got a little list of stuff that needs to fixed or just like upgraded so that's going to get added to the list
Yeah I dropped it off today and I had one of the guys dig through it and basically he had a heart attack when looking at the wiring and basically took all of it out and removed the pie and basically said hey you should get this custom control board screen thing so you can upload files with an SD card to the screen thing and it will auto transfer to the board also the SD card in the main board was missing so that's why it wasn't turning on
I should clarify I paid for a new wiring kit and the repair fees to have him repair it on my behalf because the old wiring kit was a complete mess
