I am starting off with a Formbot 350mm V2.4 kit with a LDO purple frame. The goal is 6 Dragon burner toolheads with G2SA extruders and Red Lizard K1-Pro Hotends. Ambrosia ASA Galaxy Grape and Midnight Metorite for the plastic parts Thank you @LeeMerie3D for printing them.

I used an extrusion from the Formbot kit to allow me to install the bottom of the toolhead docs. I took a lot of time getting the frame square, but it will be worth it in the long run. Just wish I could get a hold of a Clicky Clack Door in the LDO Purple. Next up let's give the frame some feet so it can run. But that will be much later this month.

#

I have a little progress to report. Even though I am feeling under the weather I got the feet on the frame. Started by getting my parts organized as well as inserting the heat inserts. Then followed the manual to get them assembled and attached to the frame.

#

I did deviate slightly here though. I rotated by 90 degrees the placement of the feet. I plan to have the "Front" of the printer be the right side so I don't have to try to remove prints from the printer with the tool docs in my face. This will allow me to access the StealthMax filter easier as well.

Unfortunately I realized that this change to the feet placement affects the entire Z axis. So I took the half hour needed to swap them back to where they belong. I still want the machine rotated as mentioned but will have to deal with it in the skirts. This way I can place the screen facing the right side (forward in relation to rotation).

#

I have recently discovered that LDO will not be producing these frames in purple anymore. 😭 I was ready to purchase another 350mm frame kit so I would have extrusions for the top hat as well as the Clicky Klack front door. I could potentially use the remainder of the extrusions from the Formbot kit but it will look like a Frankenstein Printer. 😮‍💨

Yeah they stopped making green, purple and Orange.

#

Maybe if you can source for example silver Misumi extrusions and put them as back extrusions?

Colors look great! If you can’t find another purple LDO frame kit, maybe you can have some misumi extrusions anodized domestically. You could take a look at dllpdf.com and enter Voron into the hourglass search button at the top. It looks like they have 28 color choices, along with a “Custom” option. If their purple isn’t a good enough match, maybe they could custom match the LDO purple.

yeah

Just confirm they have thatcolor.

#

I had a situation where they did not have other than black frames besides having selection on page for multiple colors. THat was v0 frame though.

I just did a check and the LDO frames sell for $150. So the kit on AliExpress is a little cheaper. It might be worth it to give it a try. At least it should be close.

Well figure I'd better post an update for the past two days. These are the idlers for the a/b and z axis. I took a few more pictures of the Mini BFI idlers because there really isn't much for documentation. These are about the only front idlers that will allow the gantry move past the tool doc extrusion.

#

Then I got busy today with the gantry, didn't take as many pics here though. Is was in the Grove and powered through. I won't be ably to hang it tomorrow though. My mistake was I didn't tell Jeremy the correct number of belt clamps to print for the a/b idlers. Instead I'll start work on the first toolhead. Probably won't get it done until Monday at the earliest though. I head back to work tomorrow and I need the weekend to spend some time with my wife.

Life has been crazy lately but I finally made some time to get some progress done. Gantry has been hung, toolhead 0 built and got a start on the electronics.

Taking my time and here is some more progress. 🎉 Finished most of the wiring. I am still trying to decide if I want to go endstop switches or sensor less. Also belted the A/B motors. This took a while because I had to fine tune the carriage to work with all 6 toolhead mounts. I had a few of the carriages printed so I could see which one worked best.

Things still left to do;
Mount the bed
Assemble and install the Nevermore StealthMax
Wire up the CAN system
Build and install the Clicky Clack Door
Install the panels
Setup Klipper
Fire it up and tune
Print out the Docking system
Add the rest of the toolheads

I still have a few parts to acquire but those can wait because they are for the last 3 toolheads.

Just want to jump on here and say how much I appreciate this build log! You're doing a amazing job, please keep it up.

Is this really your first Voron Build? You seem quite knowledgeable for your first build! I'm just about to start my LDO 2.4 350 kit (once the second half gets delivered) with the goal of making it a tool changer down the line (but also as quickly as I can).

As I try to do my research of all the options as far as components, tool head choices, etc. my head is spinning, and I feel like I can't get a good grasp on how to adequately plan my build for a tool changer. How did you end up planning your build?

Would you mind sharing the components that went into your Dragon Burner?
Are there any other tips you can share for someone as far as future proofing a build for a tool changer?

Yes this is my first Voron Build. I have been building projects since I was a kid. ( am 57 btw) So as long as you take your time and follow the assembly instructions yours should come together nicely as well.

I did quite a bit of research as I planned out my build choices. I spent about 6-8 months reading the forums, looking at builds on the reddit treads, looked at the githubs for the various parts that I wanted to change. I tend to over analyze things so that is part of the reason it took me so long. The big pieces for the toolheads are mentioned in the first post, i.e. extruder and hotend. The rest of the components are GDSTime fans and neo pixel LEDs. Looks like the website for my hotends is no longer. This is going to be a pain if/when I need replacement parts.

As far as future proof?? nope nothing you can do. As long as it works I wouldn't worry about it much. There are a few out there I chose StealthChanger as it looked like a very solid system. Each person should make their own choices though.

Thanks for taking the time to respond! I tend to dive in head first into the deep end when I get into new hobbies, so I’m currently building a 500mm RatRig Vcore4 and am waiting on my LDO kit for my Voron.

Anyways, like I said before. Great work on your build log, can’t wait to see more!

Assembly is complete except for the skirts and the canbuss cable. Hopefully I can get started on flashing the electronics and power it up for the first time.

IT'S ALIVE!!! Next chance I get to work on this I'll check motors and QGL. Then PID tune and hopefully start tuning so I can print.

Looks awesome! Love the stealthmax. Needs bedfans.

#

Love the rollerstands in the back too. I wish I had desk space to make use of them, I’d so print those badboys yesterday lol!

Nice job @timid latch - by chance do you have the link for the mini BFI's you used?
