Project Bakugo: Another Self Sourced V0.2

After many years of less than average 3d printers, it is time to elevate my printing game.
First cab off the rank? A v0.2. (yes I know they're generally a secondary printer build, but my best mate kindly donated some extra components he had so here we are!)

• LDO motors v0.2 top hat upgrade kit. (Black)

• Phaetus Rapido 2f hot end

• 3d printed filament runout sensor using Omron microswitch

• Knomi V1 screen for extra "wank factor"

• Parts printed from Polymaker ASA (Army green/Orange)

• Honey Badger metal carriage

This is expected to be a slow burn type of build.

I spent the morning cleaning my prints.
Files, deburring tool, knife, various metal spudger's and a jet lighter.

A little idea of the steps I took to cleanup each part.

Scrapped the printed tool head carriage and picked up a honey badger metal carriage.

Had to trim the stop flange at the top of the cable chain to allow greater flexibility when the bed is at the top.

Just these little wires that run between the underside LEDs took an hour of trial and error 😨

It is a hot glue diffuser made in a mould.

The blue is really throwing me off. after assembling it this far, ive come to realisation that replacing it later will be a WHOLE lot of work.
So the disassembly to replace it beings now.

While I'm disassembling it, I thought I'd add a few extras.

New revision of the klipper expander and nitehawk USB board mount.
Saves a bit of space inside the rear bay, which let's be real is quite scarce.

Time to extend the UART connector for the skr Pico.
I decided that a cut and shut wasn't an option for me, so here I go trying to make a new cable.
The JST side will be easy enough, but I'm not sure if I have a pin header connector; I'll have a dig though my spares. 🤞🏾

Found the correct crimp connectors, but the largest connector housing I have are 4 lanes long. I guess I will be depinning the 5 lane housing from the original cable.

Im so bad at crimping I just split the pre build wire in the middle and solder a cable extension to it. Not aesthetically pleasing or strong, but a meshed PET Sleeve can cover that anyways

I'm not the best either, but just practice on scrap wire and take your time.
Buy a cheap kit from Ali express so you have extras to practice/fuck up with.

If you label every input it would be…. perfect, but that is just my opinion. I think wiring is a very personal thing

Any wire inserted into a terminal or wago, has a ferrule crimped onto it; this is throughout the whole build.

This is the power cable that comes with the knomi.
Some pin headers should make for a decent enough connector.

Only the rear panels are printed.
The clear panels are laser cut acrylic and the black panels are laser cut haircell ABS.

Slideswipe assembled, wired up and continuity checked.

Hooked up the servo in the slideswipe to an Arduino to check its travel extents and adjust them.
Attached a quick and dirty bit of code to control the servo; for those playing at home.

Re-crimping the Molex end of the nitehawk cable.
Also grounded the shielding by soldering on a short length of cable.

I seem to have hit a snag with the v0 display.
It wont complete the flash process and detach from dfu.
After countless attempts, I am going to try another display I have.

The new one doesnt have a USB header soldered onto it (which I prefer for a cleaner look).

These ones were resin printed.
I don't think hot glue would've worked; you need to friction fit these into place, so pushing them through the cutouts would be almost Impossible.
I paid some guy on marketplace to print them.

It was worth it, I printed my diffusers with some transparent PETG but the print lines are very visible and kinda bother me lol. Was gonna at least try the hot glue mold for the dragon burner like yours!

After 30 mins of messing around with the z axis, I've just realised my leadscrew is T8x4 and my pom nut is T8x8 🤦🏾‍♂️

Disassembly (AGAIN) to replace nut begins now.

New pom nut has a couple of differences.

1. The shape; the oblong shape cleared the rear panels whereas the new round shape interferes.
2. M3 -> M4 screws needed to secure it.

There are a couple of things you need to check.

1. Check your servo is NOT a continuous type. (The 2 types look identical)
2. You need to check the travel extents prior to installation. (The servo only has about 200 deg of rotation.)
3. Triple check the lengths of your PTFE tube; these need to be pretty spot on or else the mechanism will bind.

Feels pretty good, as this build has been an 8-9 month journey from making the decision to build one, till now.
Still a fair few things to complete/tidy up.

• Custom knomi Images
• Matchstick LEDs
• Get the slideswipe working consistently.
• Hula feet
• More custom macros etc
