#Orbiter 2 is Squeaky Sometimes

I have an Orbiter 2. And recently it has started squeaking sometimes when extruding. Does not always do it. Sounds almost like metal on plastic.

Anyone else had this? Do I just need to open it up and see if it needs cleaning? Is there maintenance protocols for the Orbiter 2?

Any help is appreciated.

So I have had the same issue where it squeaks sometimes and it was driving me nuts, I took the whole thing apart and found out that I guess for some insane reason the orbiter v2 does not use needle bearings for the drive gear attached to the arm and its just a plain metal sleeve and a rod, Mine was dry as a bone so I added some super lube to the pin and the "bearing" as well as to the outside edges of the gear to hopfully help lubricate it as its a critical part and ridiculous they never added a bearing or at least the one i have does not have bearings, this seemed to fix the issue but I also make sure not to over tighten the filament adjustment screw

Sorry I’m bad at explaining things but it’s this gear the one on the left, that copper colored sleeve should really be a needle bearing like on almost all other extruders and it is binding with the metal pin that’s inserted through it, at least mine was, you need to knock out these two pins(be sure you look at each side of the pin as one side is got teeth on it and the other is smooth, you want to push on the smooth side without teeth, if you push the wrong end the holes will be too large), you will need to take both pins out circled in green to be able to work on it

You will want to add grease like ptfe or super lube to the inside of that gear and on the out side of the pin, I also added some on both ends of the gear so it was moving smoother. This seemed to fix my issues

Sorry the gear on the right not the left it was revered for me on my phone

Yeah that should be just fine I just happened to have superlube. You definitely want to pull the pins out because you only want lube on the pin and inside of that gear not on the outside or anywhere touching the filament path.

I wish I would have taken pictures to show you what I did but I had the same squeaking sound

I know it’s mechanical as this was an old file I have printed fine before.
