#New Voron 2.4 Initial startup error

I cannot get past an Unable to read TMC UART stepper_x register error.

I read through this thread and it did not seem to help: https://forum.vorondesign.com/threads/unable-to-read-tmc-uart-stepper_x-register-ifcnt.496/ I also got lost once it got too technical with the info about different versions of Katapult. It seems he got around the problem by swapping the can adapter with a can hat.

I am working my way through the initial startup guide for a Voron 2.4 for a Fysetc kit with a Spider 2.2 board, 2209 drivers. I have set it up with BTT Canbus and sensorless homing. I have triple checked all my jumpers.
I got to the "STEPPER_BUZZ STEPPER=stepper_x" step and got the error in the title. I got this error for stepper_x and stepper_y, but none of the stepper_z checks. I swapped the x stepper with one of the z steppers and got the same results.

Oh - and here's an odd side effect: whenever I buzz x or y, the part cooling fan turns on.

I'm really stuck and would appreciate some input.

First questions - is your pin definition correct?

Is driver in UART mode, and not standalone? Check whst configuration that stepsticks comes in and if no additional action is needed (solder or desolder some solder bridge).

did you set jumpers correctly for board to run in UART mode?

I am almost positive that my pin definitions are correct - I will double check that tonight. I'm thinking about pulling down a fresh copy of the Fysetc sample printer.cfg and starting over

TBH, I don't know how to check if the driver or the board are in UART mode and haven't been able to find any documentation for that. And I'm assuming that stepsticks are drivers.

Took some pix. All the jumpers are the same as shown in the top spot. It is my understanding that this sets it in PDN mode and I assume that is UART mode.

Could this have anything to do with me connecting to the raspberry pi via usb cable instead of UART?

Guess what I'm missing from my spare parts?

Any idea what that connector is so I can make the jumper?
