#AC Inlet Switch burnt out

Hey all, so my well used Voron printer randomly turned off this morning while heat soaking. I wasn't in the room with it so I'm not sure if there was any magic smoke or not but now it won't turn on.

Examining the electronics bay it looks like the prongs on the inlet switch burnt out. I checked the fuse and it looked fine to me, I also looked over the PSU and the terminals there looked good as well so I am thinking this is just related to a cheap switch.

I'll attach some photos of the inlet, switch and fuse to let you guys take a look at it and let me know what you think.

My questions are:

  1. Is there anywhere else I'd be able to check for damage in the case it's not the blown switch?
  2. Is there anything I could have done to prevent something like this?

I'm still pretty new to the electronics side of things so any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Jacob

I wonder if it was a bad crimp on one of those spade terminals at the back maybe 🤔

and I don't think you really could have prevented it

That makes sense. These came as part of a kit so I'm sure the quality isn't the best.

I've ordered the one recommended in the BOM and I'll hope nothing was damaged. If anyone else has any suggestions let me know if not I'll close this thread tonight

I’ve had this exact same issue. My switch burnt out on mine. Wasn’t actually rated for the continuous current that was going though it. Solution was to use the BOM switch and inlet plug

Out of curiosity what kit is that from?
Formbot kit contains inlet and the switch as separated parts.

At least both of kits I've got.

Mine was just a generic switch off Amazon, said it was rated for 10A, but in reality it’s 6.3 for the switch, and 10A for the Nema plug

Add a 750W heater and 3 power supplies to it, and it lets the magic smoke out

the built in switch on cheap inlets like those melting has been known to be an issue for a long time, that's why PIF only supports the version with separate switch and inlet

Hey all, just wanted to say thanks for the help. I replaced the switch with the BOM one and the printer is up and running again! You guys are awesome
