#Solo-class Dropship
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
With the market booming following the Clan Invasion and the technological renaissance of the Second Star League, Irian Naval Systems was looking to diversify their product lines. Already making good money with their Leopard and Union lines, they first attempted the poorly-received Hamilcar class. Swinging the opposite direction from their standard of hardy, reliable ships with well-tested histories, Irian instead developed the Solo-class dropship: an exercise in conspicuous consumption.
Intended for absurdly high wealth clients such as ranking nobles or Solaris stars, the Solo is unique in that it is a dropship with only one mech bay. A personal combat transport, the Solo is the dropship equivalent to a limousine - luxury, comfort, and a signal to the rest of the Inner Sphere that you are someone with vastly more money than they could ever comprehend. Included in the price is a top-end kitchen to prepare whatever is needed, a state-of-the-art entertainment system, a pool, and a double-size luxury suite.
The Solo is well defended, as well. Carrying as much armor as the twice-as-big Leopard, it also is packing Laser AMS point defense on all angles, two batteries of Medium Pulse Lasers (five fore, five aft), and each wing mount bears two ERPPCs and two Large Pulse Lasers. While no pocket warship, the defenses are plenty to keep such a craft in top shape.
There are, of course, weaknesses. The Solo's many high end systems make it a serious hangar queen and the cost is rather absurd. But then again, by design? Anybody who cares about the cost isn't the target audience. This was borne out in the production: only a handful of Solos were ever sold.
Millenium Falcon
More so this, I think...
Basically, yeah.
"What if they built a limo for single mechs and really, really rich idiots?"
I considered putting even more random support BS in there, but the crew requirements ballooned pretty fast and it didn't seem to fit quite right. (There are extra crew quarters set aside for the VIP's entourage, though.)
What weapons you got listed, doesn't say
And really a 150 person Field Kitchen?
Wouldn't a MASH Theater be better to recover with?
Might be better with ERL instead of Peepers. And swap to a few ERML for the AFT bay to keep that "stay away" feel.
You could recover more by going 3/5.
But this looks like a Aerodyne instead of Spheroid, which in this case, need more Aft based arches to use while on the ground in defenses.
5xMPL nose, 5xMPL aft, 2xERPPC/2xLPL on each side.
