#Lancer's RHS Challenge

This is my first draft for @potent granite's Radical Heat Sink design challenge. I started off conservative to fit the requirements of being able to operate away from logistics lines, but I know I'm not making full use of my heat potential.
Nothing super exciting, just made sure that a flying alpha does some decent damage and encourages use of the radical cooling system.
If it's not clear, this is a Shadow Hawk, with no changes to the engine or gyro.
Thank you! I'll check it out
I like it. It's hard to make a shadowhawk good, but this one certainly isn't bad. The erml has decent punch and the 12 hex range is pretty good for the various costs
Thanks! I figured keeping it energy-only would fit your goals of making a mech that's easily upkept, and I tried to stick to modifications that would be relatively easy to implement on an existing endo/FF Shadow Hawk (though I don't know what variants have those). The PPC is mounted in the same shoulder as the autocannon, while the lasers mostly fill the SRM space.
I really like that idea. The books talk about the AC5 often being a terrible menace, which... it really isn't, by its lonesome.
The Shadowhawk isn't a bad mech, but it's too much genetalist, with its kitchen sink style loadout, none of which really synergize by default
Putting the ppc in place of the ac5 makes it actually dangerous
Especially in that sweet like 6-9 hex range
I can count on one hand the number of times I have seen or heard of an AC/5 doing something important
That hand is a closed fist
Hahaha
Kicker is when I went and made my own (https://discord.com/channels/458705327911731231/1395912468093468833), I kept the AC/5 lmfao
The books say things like "the mighty autocannon spat forth a stream of depleted uranium death" and I'm like "yeah, ok"
Books about game systems are never game-system-accurate. 40k is a top-tier example, talking about bolter shells ripping through everything like paper
In-game, no armor pen at all lmao
Lol that's very true
The nutty thing is, how much of a leg up clan tech is, upon their arrival. Like, an XL engine and Clan DHS, and the clan version of these exact loadout is devastating
Clan stuff is supposed to be better than IS, IS has other advantages
IS's most important advantage: numbers
Both in the long and short term, tbh
True tbh
I mean, depleted uranium does see a lot of uses IRL, and in a world with access to Fusion and Fisson engines it's probably easy enough to make for ammunition
It's good against armour, less useful against infantry (But they get pulped anyways)
which, in turn, implies that depleted uranium is the standard
Mmmmmm

My own take-
Single heat sinks?
Doubles
I was talking to the initial post but this is probably doubles
That one looks kinda weird, tbh
It has 11 SHS, but sinks 16?
But with mine, I doubled down on all the funny clan-tech I could
This can jump and fire just the ER MLs and be heat neutral, but if you tie in those iHMLs or the Chameleon it starts to get spicy
That being said, the Chameleon is very useful in most cases until you get into the 3-5 sort of ranges
I really like this design too!! It does look spicy though lol
Clan-spec stuff usually ends up a little spicy
I can see this as having been made at Arc-Royal MechWorks
Especially as the Night Boar was one of Nondi Steiner's favourite animals to hunt
That's the kind of thing that I really enjoy thinking up.
Yeah I'm really not sure how it calculated that, but MML didn't elaborate. Hovering over it didn't explain.
11 + 50% (rounded down) for the RHS, obviously
hmmmmm
But that's not how RHS works
It's +1 Sinking for each HS, right? Regardless of type
may be triggered only once
per turn—at the start of
the unit’s Heat Phase—and
increases the cooling capacity
of the unit’s functioning heat
sinks by 1 point each in that
turn (regardless of heat sink
type)```
I'll see if it'll let me post the file directly and maybe you guys can figure out why it says 11 [16]
This says 11/22 (RHS)
No changes
But the bit underneath says 16 sinking
Weird
Ahhhhhh, right, interesting
Mine sinks 26, but says 32 for some reason in the same place!
...maybe it means averaged out assuming you turn it on and off every turn?
pseudo-16?
We could ping a dev and ask
I'm really glad people are enjoying my challenge ^__^
Challenges are t a s t y
RHS could be very effectively used in anticipation of double fire on a UAC20
