If you can get in behind, not a lot of mechs have anywhere near that kind of armor
with that mobility, that wont be a problem
That should be plenty for most engagements
This is basically exactly what I had in mind, though i was trying to go too heavy i think
I wonder how it would do, if properly supported/screened for
i have my own numbers for what you should aim for in terms of mobility type, engine type, and either target weight or speed if you want to see it

I made one that's 5/8/10 that's got 16 cMG and 4 cERML
So, throwing 1.5t of ammo, which is 300pt of damage into side torsos feels like a bad idea, but the arms seems like a worse one
I took out the lower arm and hand actuators, which makes the arms semi-turrets

If it had MGA's I'd double not use it
Because MGA's suck
But it's more than it's a really limited design that's still a medium mech even if it goes 10 jump, its threat range is literally 2
I don't like arrays, they take up weight and makes them cluster weapons, meaning that even if it is possible to auto hit, there will still be some that miss, it could've been another MG or ammo.
I might field a few, but not in any meaningful numbers, yes it can dish out damage in clusters, but it's a niche design
MGAs take away the main "advantage" of MG spam which is the ungodly number of rolls you get to hit
The flavor of MGAs makes them sound good. I'm surprised they're terrible. I'd hate rolling 18 hit rolls every turn. And I'm pretty sure any living player would too
Even using cMGs instead of cHMGs makes it 6, but drops the damage down by 33%, it's still dubious
On the one hand, you're absolutely right, it does suck, but if you brought a Piranha/MG Spammer, you brought it, aside from turning infantry in fine paste, because you're a fan of rolling a lot to hit. MGAs take more weight to roll less and just, become a trashy SRM pack
Making a Piranha 45t and giving it 4 cERML with a cECM, and the rest cMGs (16, with 2t ammo) with that 5/8/10 looks more viable
Eventually you will take a hit though, and then: dead
If you have 200mg ammo in an arm, and that arm is destroyed (not blown off), obviously it blows up, does it take the side torso with it?
depends on whether the arms are CASEd
With CASE, no, without, yes
And any location on a clan mech, even the arms, legs, and head, automatically gets case if they have explosive components
I didn't know it was all clan designs, I thought it was just Omni's
Err I guess all modern clan mechs are omnis...
Nope, unless a certain year of a clan mech says so, then ANY location is automatically equipped with CASE for free
