I'm probably a dunce here. But I just can't figure out what I'm supposed to do. I think I've read this page 20 time and have no idea what to do with the info. Can someone help me better understand how to update versions? I have Windows 10.

Thanks!

Are you running a dedicated server?

@hexed bough no. Which is probably the issue with me looking there. But I couldn't find any instructions anywhere else on how to to update the game.

Download 50.05, unzip using a good (Aka not windows unzip program) into it's OWN folder, COPY the campaign files and customs from .04 to .05. Play.

If you set up a Custom Users folder in .04 you can just point .05 to that folder in the options

#

Basically every release is like it's own full new version of the game

@hexed bough Ah. That makes sense. If you added the extra folders with the character images and such, I'm assuming you have to re-add them each time as well?

The best way is to set up the user folder (see client settings) and then you point the new version to that folder

Got it! I'll do that first!

You set it up in the client settings first tab, and their is a helper text

@hexed bough Thanks for the help here!

@hexed bough I'm sorry to keep being a bother, but once I have my folders pulled from 50.04 into the custom directory (found the instructions. I believe), do I won't need to move them into the new updated game file each time? And will I delete the old versions of the game off the computer or do you keep them?

And also, what's the difference between a milestone and a development? As you probably can tell, I'm not much of a programmer.

Milestone Builds
Like a well-maintained Warhammer, Milestone builds have proven themselves reliable in the field. These are Development releases that have been thoroughly tested by the community and found free of major bugs. Released roughly every 6-9 months, they offer the perfect balance between stability and updated features. Best for: Green MechWarriors and commanders who need dependable equipment.

Development Builds
Development builds are like prototype 'Mechs fresh from the factory—packed with new features but not fully battle-tested. While generally stable, they may have occasional quirks or unexpected behavior, similar to a temperamental targeting computer. Best for: Veteran MechWarriors who've survived a few campaigns and can handle field repairs when systems act up.

Nightly Builds
Nightly builds are experimental LosTech salvaged from Star League caches—powerful but unpredictable. Assembled nightly (around 2300 Eastern Time), they offer a glimpse of cutting-edge features at the expense of stability. Much like an experimental XXL engine, they might suddenly go critical during combat. Best for: Elite Clan technicians and those who laugh in the face of ammo explosions.

Okay. That makes sense. I guess. And this should be it, because I'm just not sure I'm fully going to get the user folder thing because I've been looking for a guide on it and what you have here, and still don't have anything. I'm not really finding anything in client settings within the program either. But, for what it's worth, I should just plan to copy and paste anything custom over from from the previous edition each time. Which would include campaign files as well as files from the data folder like images, etc.

#

And then I guess user settings as well, perhaps.

#

I swear I've looked at your installation guides, reddit, read this thread multiple times, read the announcement about the User folder and that section multiple time. I just don't understand how it can be more than copying and pasting.

Most people are used to modern games from Steam where you install them and then patches are pushed. The nature of the programs means we can't do that. So you have to download new versions as they become available. The most important things is NEVER unzip a version over another version they must always be seperate folders.
