Its cheap, BV and C-Bill wise, cheaper then a UM-R60, lost a heat sink, a ton of armor and its jump jets but surprisingly, you can make a decent artillery battery as long as that arty doesn't need to go anywhere fast. Its also good for swatting at aircraft.
It can even take an AC/20 to the front CT!
As long as you don't mind it going intneral, yes.
And since it uses a Thumper, unlike its Arrow IV cousin, you can build it using Succession wars tech.
I really like this idea.
With IS2 tech, you could upgrade the speed and armor a bit and make it more survivable versus counter battery fire.
With the new Leadership rules in 50.04, sub 500 BV units have real value…
With XL and Endo steel, you can even make it go faster, give it its jumpjets back or have it carry more ammo types

Crazy part is.. its not much more expnesive
A huge part of the expense is the XL engine, and that price scales by weight if I remember correctly. Low end engines weigh almost nothing.
Yeah the XL engine is what really drives up Price, doubley so for XXL
Huh. Engine price scales with Engine Rating and Unit Weight.
They are multiplied. So, a small engine in a small vehicle is pretty cheap. That explains a lot about XL Savannah Master pricing.
Yeah.
The Urbie may be a meme, but man does it have utility when you have some crazy ideas.. it was one of the first custom mechs I ever made because well.. arty mechs were pretty much gone and I needed something that fit in a mechbay. Plus I had not as much knowledge as I do now so I was unware of like the Thumper artilery vic.
You say it's cheap, but that's moderately expensive for artillery
A lot of people also question whether anything moving at 3/5 is truly an UrbanMech
Anyway, compare this to the Karnov (Artillery)
Its cheap in terms of Mech artillery
Vic aritllery is always going to be massivly cheaper
I consider ArtilleryMechs fundamentally inferior
Pretty much nothing about BattleMechs lends itself to that role
I mean the Helepolis, some variants of the Catapult, Urbanmech and Longbow equipped with Arrow IV,
As front line mechs they are bad.. but they're not suppose to be
I'd argue they're also bad as backline support, though
Hey, they're not for everyone
Sure
It all depends on how you set up your forces and what not.
And I think configuring the occasional OmniMech with an Arrow IV can be useful if you aren't able to field a Combat Vehicle due to environmental conditions or the like
Like the Kit Fox V
That's if you have OMnimechs.. I built the Urbanmech thumper for 3025 tech...
Indeed
Reminds me of my Thumpback. Check the CBT forums for that detail.
TT
Hah. A Hunchback with a Thumper. That's fitting
Yeah... just dropped a SHS for double ammo and swapped the AC for a Thumper... 4/6 same armor and still those twin ML to self guard with.
I tend to run a Brace of three Thumpbacks and a Single HBK as bodyguard. 4P is a nasty and rude surprise...
