That means one or more skills no longer exists or was entered incorrectly. Most likely the change from Mech to Mek. If you check the log the first line of the error will tell you what skill
What skill is it saying is the problem?
yep
Ok, can you post an archive containing the relevant save and your custom units?
so my save and all my customs?
Yes
Looking now
The contents are protected - do you have encryption or password protection on your achive?
I couldn't tell you, I don't use 7-zip
Password is derp
Yeah, for whatever reason that's not unarchiving correctly
You'll need to open an issue report

MegaMek MechTech Support Beacon
Hey MechWarriors!
Stumbled upon a bug, have a brilliant idea, or found a vulnerability? Let’s make sure it gets filed correctly so the MechTechs can jump into action!
:scroll: Follow these steps to report an issue or suggest an enhancement:
-
Choose the correct tracker for your project:
- MegaMek Tracker: Reporting a bug or enhancement for MegaMek.
- MegaMekLab Tracker: Reporting a bug or enhancement for MegaMekLab.
- MekHQ Tracker: Reporting a bug or enhancement for MekHQ.
-
Check if your issue is already reported: Search the issue tracker to avoid duplicates and keep the process smooth.
-
Follow the template instructions: Whether it's a bug or an enhancement, providing detailed information is key to getting things resolved or implemented quickly. The clearer, the better!
:bulb: Feature Ideas: If you're suggesting an enhancement, include the "RFE" tag in the title so we know it's a request for a new feature.
Your feedback fuels the battlefield – keep firing away!
ok
@rapid whale one thing I would recommend trying, before opening the issue report is to 'walk' your save through versions.
For example, go from 50.00 to 50.01, then 50.01 to 50.02 and so on
ok
I'm not aware of anyone else running into this issue, however, but without being able to access your save I can't offer any more assistance.
This one work for you? @unkempt rapids
Yeah, that worked!
Your save loads fine in the in-dev 50.04. So I have a couple more questions:
How did you upgrade to 50.04, did you create a fresh install or did you install on top of your existing folder?
Fresh install
Ok, that’s good. My hope is that if you delete the install and re-extract the issue will fix itself
If not, I recommend the 50.04 nightly from last night. It’s in a really good place and you shouldn’t have this issue - at least I’m not able to replicate it in 50.04

MegaMek Universe Nightly Builds Guide
Attention MechWarriors and Tech Commanders!
:night_with_stars: What Are Nightlies?
Nightly builds are the forefront of our development efforts, assembled nightly (around 2300 Eastern Time). These versions pack all the latest changes, offering a glimpse into the future of our software at the expense of stability. Expect the unexpected, as nightlies may occasionally break down in the heat of development.
:hammer_and_wrench: Encountered a Bug?
If a nightly build throws you a curveball, report it with the "!logs" command. Be sure to mention the project you're reporting on (MegaMek, MekHQ, or MegaMekLab) and the specific GitHub build number. This info is crucial for us to address the issue effectively and avoid duplicates.
 Downloading Your Nightly Build:
- Log into GitHub.
- Navigate to the GitHub page of the project you're interested in: MegaMek, MekHQ, or MegaMekLab.
- Hit the Actions Tab.
- Look for the latest successful build, marked by a green checkmark (e.g., "MekHQ Nightly CI #454: Scheduled"). Make a note of the build number for any potential issues.
- Scroll down to Artifacts at the bottom of the page, and select the non-Mac release for download.
By engaging with our nightly builds, you're on the cutting edge of the battlefield's future tech. Proceed with caution, and thank you for your contributions to our ongoing war effort!
