Starting a new journey. For the next 70 days, I’ll devote myself to my passion for drawing and finally give it a real try, something I never truly did before, because I don’t want to regret not giving it a chance.

If you’d like, you can follow along too. I’ll post the drawings I make each day. I don’t have a guide or professional helping me, so I made my own chart of things to study that I think will be fun and productive which I’ll follow throughout this journey.

Constructive criticism is welcomed, which is why I'm posting here. I need all the constructive criticisms and feedbacks to grow faster... and also another thing - I'll just keep posting my future progressions under this forum because I don't want to create a new post each day that'll be kinda spammy.

🫠 this took me an hour. I tend to do better with a reference. This is what I use to study anatomy. You and I are about at the same level. To be completely honest with you, and I hate to admit it. Your sense of shading is better than my knowledge. My art is clearly messy. I have my methods and I’ve seen other ways of breaking down the human figure. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me. Thanks for giving me something to do. I haven’t drawn in a while. Since Christmas in fact.

you don’t have to watch these but this is what I had to watch to learn how to break down references. Human figure drawings. That double triangle is a doozy to learn. It took me TIME to get a grasp on it.

I’ll give you some advice here on this really. Take it with a grain of salt. You can use layer one to outline the clothes and the anatomy using shapes and different color line art. Simplifying things. When I’m working on that part I put fist on there. Layer 2 is black line art and color. Background stuff then there’s the lighting lair.

Bear with me here, if you’re on laptop then you can use the shift key for straight lines. Cleaner line art the, ears seem to high to me, a line in the middle of the face can be helpful. Last thing it seems as if you used the same line art thickness throughout the whole drawing, don’t be afraid to change that thickness on some of the body parts. Trust me it’ll make it easier on you and no body is gonna notice a thing. 😉

That is tough to explain, in simple words. 😭 Well honestly I’m thinking too far ahead, drawing is a lot of experimenting. Different brush thickness can be useful depending on the circumstances. Thinner means the lines will be less visible to the viewer to the point the line art can be invisible. I tend to use thicker lines when Would like the lines to be seen. Shading, clothing folds, armor it can make for some pretty cool stuff. Examples:
Problem I still currently have is most of my art is women. 😁

Drawing my first ever full body art with the knowledge I gained in past 6 days by practicing each day for 5-6hrs and watching tutorials. Took me 9:00 hrs to draw this.

Learning how the clothes fold and how gravity effects the fabric is a lengthy process. What I mostly do is do a flat oval kind deal to get a sense where the bottom of the dress sits. Then you can out line folds along the oval. Then you can begin coloring. Paint bucket isn’t a bad idea but sometimes the program cannot read where the lines sit properly then it colors in the whole page for you. You can color it in then put the line art over it. I’ll admit I draw mostly anime realism like what you are doing swimmingly here isn’t my cup of tea. Shading is really something you need to keep in mind. What I am doing there is just establishing the shading from the other leg. I know that you have seen that drawing but it’s me putting everything into what I showed you. I did kinda rush this. Here’s why I’ve was kinda already burnt out from drawing this morning.

A good trick most artists do. Including me is keep track of the head proportions. 7 is a regular human 8 is super hero art. I was just trying to figure out why the other person thought the legs were to short. Honestly I think it looks Awesome.

I've been trying to figure out this method for a while. yeah the lungs is just an egg. Any way It might be easier to start with tennis shoes. I caught myself dead this was 6 heads. That is how I draw the knees. You can count the heads with your fingers. My hero academia is all 8 head characters and it is so unnoticeable.

Well the best way is to break it into shapes right

#

So I usually break it into a cuboid and three circles

#

And then work with shadows and highlights to define the nose length and width

#

The portraits peak as someone already talked about eye imma talk about shadows don't be afraid to make them deeper if u colour pick your ref ull see your shadow and ur normal skin tone are so very light and dark and that gives a better sense of depth, this is a w drawing but don't be afraid of darker shadows hearthands

@keen portal your doing a splendid job of copying down a reference. The next step for you is to develop a style from that. Or in other terms. A reference can help you make an OC. You don’t have to copy down the reference you just have to get a since of what references can help you with said image. Then you compile that into one drawing. That sounds complicated when really I find it fun. I have a few examples of that if you would like to observe them.

I’d shade half the face and do a red eye pop. Pull that shading off right and it makes the eye look like it’s glowing red.

You seem to like drawing realism a lot. I got this quote from a YouTube vid. You can study other pro artists work. Using references from their work to improve your own art. That’s how you go about developing your own style. I based my art off of DBZ. Super hero artist. Good luck with your studies. I’m trying to remain helpful even though you’re clearly miles ahead of me. I fail realism and remain good at drawing anime. 😉

Drawing and burning out. It isn’t fun at all. You have to enjoy a hobby in order to continue it. There’s a breaking point where you will just be working on the same piece for a week. Then you lost hope with the image. Or in other words don’t know how to fix it. I’ve been there done that. That is why most of my art I call experimental. Got to learn when to put down the image and move on. Or learn how to utilize the skills you have into an image. Stuff you’re pretty good at.
